I've heard that that was decided even before the program was dropped.

Hopefully the ASU kids manage to be able to stay at ASU, but if the program gets ditched maybe Robles heads to Poly. Still on the West Coast and he'll have the chance to work with Henson every day.

Heard Cal Poly is holding a couple spots for ASU starters and will make decision by end of week.

This going to be difficult for all but the best of the bunch. Trasnfer app deadlines have closed and unless one can find a coach that pull the necessary string, transfer may not be possible unless the 2nd term. For 1st student, they had to have deposits down May 1. So if any of those new recruits didn't duplicate a deposit, which is highly doubtful, they may be out of luck for an alternative school, unless they too have a coach with pull. Those that had signed onto student housing can get out of the contract, NBD.

Those like Robles may lose any deposit and rent paid in advance if he transfers unless he can find someone to assume the lease. Robles got it stuck him in more than one way.

Love screwed all of those kids BIG TIME. I'd "Love" to see those kids come flying back with a breach of contract suit. There are contingent expenses that ASU is going to have assume if these kids can transfer out.

I agree that the AD could not have chosen a worse time to pull this stunt. I know that there are attorneys out there that would drool over getting their hands on this case. It might not turn in to big money but it will have some local publicity as well as some national publicity from within the wrestling community and ncaa ramifications.

There have been a number of suits against athletic department personnel in the recent past questioning rash and bad business decisions over employment issues. Some of these ADs aren't the most astute business persons driving the budgets.

I'd like to see Debbie Yow, U Maryland put on a workshop about how expand opportunities in athletics and be successful for these less than enlightened ADs.

RYou:

Trust me, Dr. Yow was under pressure to drop programs from her budget people not that long ago. Football wasn't winnning so we weren't getting our maximum revenue from ticket sales, we were under a consent decree from the OCR, and she inherited a large capital debt from Andy Geiger when he left for Ohio State. She resisted, probably a year or two longer than she was advised to.

She got burned by the Commission hearings when she proposed the gender quota be relaxed to something like 7% of the campus gender ratio vice the 1% cap we currently operate under. Funny that, when people claim there are other ways to comply, the WSF and NWLC were up in arms over a relaxation of the sticter quota. Hmmmm.....

Five years ago only 4 of our 12 men's teams were fully funded for scholarships (football, basketball, lacrosse, soccer). The rest ranged from half (like wrestling) to none (golf). Football and basketball success resulted in more donors to the Terrapin Club, which funds our scholarship bill. Before that happened we used to have to cover part of the scholarship bill from operating funds. Once those contributions increased, and we started selling out football games, she was able to expand the women's sports with water polo and competitive cheer.

This provided the underfunded men's teams the opportunity to raise money to add more scholarships as a four year "bridge" to the hoped for increase in donor monies. As a result wrestling became fully funded, as did men's tennis and golf. Track added quite a few scholarships from what I think was only 3, swimming and diving added some, and baseball added a couple. Wrestling raised more money, and had more people contribute, than any of the other sports. That sent a message to the department and they took notice.

I look for Indiana to drop something sinc ethe b-ball program has everyone wondering ''What's Next''-the football stadium is 1/2 full on homecoming and Purdue -1/3 capacity the rest of the time - attendance is down at Bball games and more importantly the television revenue has been cut -Iu is great at track and field , swimming ,golf and tennis -doesn't leave alot of options left does it ?
