Here's the drill. I don't feel like going through the IU website to get their actual roster sizes. But their 06-07 EADA data shows 408 male athletes and 354 female athletes at IU, so 53% of their participants are male. Undergraduate enrollment, according to a couple of year old US News rankings edition, is about 53% female. So, if they are forced to get within the 1% variance that Maryland has to meet, the either have to add about 88 female athletes, or eliminate about 87 male athletes. Or some combination thereof. I'm guessing the sacred mens sports at IU, other than football and basketball are swimming (a la Doc Counselman) and soccer, at least based on national reputation. Those four are about 220 of the 320 allowed if they have to hit the quota. Track lists 120 males total. |

Counmcilman is /was swimming for decades -Yeagley brought a new approach to soccer [a combo of australian rules football and rugby ] but he won championships and track and field has produced several Olympians -not much left to cut -maybe the little 500 ? The Indianapolis star and the Bloomington herald have been calling for the AD's head since he hired Sampson-I wonder if we could get rid of staff instead of athletes ? |
