Default Who will Stanford Hire?

So I don't hi-jack the other thread anymore.

Who do you think Stanford will hire?

My guess

Terry Brands or Mike Mena.

Outside shot at one of the Steiners.

Probably Terry over Troy (Bowlsby vs Zalesky thing).

I personally called Terry to see if he was interested in the Maryland job. From what I gathered Stanford probably wouldn't meet his requirements.

However, I think Bowlsby does have a commitment to wrestling, but it will have to be with a coach who is willing to grow the program for several years, much as Pat Santoro did at Maryland over the past 5 years. Without Pat's efforts Maryland would not have been the attractive opportunity it was this time for us to get the interest we did.

I agree, working with a hand full of scholly's and below average facilities will be a tough sell.

I have no idea what Stanford's facilities are like. They have around 4 scholarships now but my guess is Bowlsby will find a way to add to that over time. And Stanford now provides free tuition to entering students with family incomes under $100,000; and free tuition, room and board to those under something around $65,000. That can help.

Mena who? Kids want a big name. Mena was a great wrestler, don't get me wrong, but that was light years ago. At least from a kids point of view.

Terry has a sweet deal at OTC. I can't see him leaving. Nor the other Terry.

Troy no because of the Bowlsby debacle.

So, who's left? If Bowlsby really gives a shit about Stanford wrestling, he'll bring in a bigger name than McCoy. However, who out htere is a bigger name than McCoy and has all his credentials? Not many.

Heffernan?

I mean I don't know how tied down he is in Illinois (is he from Illinois originally?), but its not like Mark Johnson is feasibly on his way out any time soon

Sounds like Thom Ortiz will be out of a job soon from what I'm hearing about ASU dropping their program real soon.

I thought about Heffernan as well. Stanford may go after a current top assistant.

Back to Mena ask Escobedo and Dubuque how good Mena is as a coach.
