Conquering wrestling hero comes home to Galion
National champion Dustin Fox heads youth clinic

GALION -- Nick Flowers, smallest kid in the wrestling room, thought the biggest kid in the wrestling room was a giant.

He was right.

"Big kid" and "giant" are two terms that fit reigning NCAA heavyweight champion Dustin Fox to a tee, much better than the camouflage "tee" hugging his barrel chest like Saran wrap as he conducted a clinic for 30 kids Sunday at Heise Park.

"It's pretty cool," Flowers, a Galion sixth grader, said. "You don't see that many champions like him around here."

It was Fox's first trip home from Northwestern University since beating Ohio State's J.D. Bergman 4-2 in overtime for his NCAA title. He signed some 200 autographs for kids during the weekend, spoke at Sunday's dedication of the new Galion schools and accepted a key to the city from officials who proclaimed Saturday "Dustin Fox Day."

Thanks for posting the article/link. I really like Fox. He is an "old school heavyweight", not one of these bulked up 190 lbers! Seems like a bright and down to earth kid.

There is an awful lot they could learn from him for high school wrestling. For HS, his offense was good for a heavyweight--and his defense was even better. I think he didn't give up an offensive point for the last 2 and a half years of his career.

Last year I drove through Galion and saw the cool sign at the city limits proclaiming it as the home of Dustin Fox with accomplishments noted. Now a different sign gets to go up and maybe is up already. I love those signs posted here and there in Ohio communitites lauding the accomplishments of their favorite wrestling sons.

Actually all those signs are coming down...The City Leaders thought those signs detracted from the town....

The signs are moving to the entrance drive to the new high school.
