| The APR is out of whack at ODU primarily because of transfers. Three straight large recruiting classes where backups/workout partners peaced out. You'll also notice that half of the schools listed have changed coaches during the four year window. | |||||||||||

My Mood: ![]() ![]() ![]() | I agree that the APR is hardly an indicator of much of anything, at least for an equivalency sport like wrestling. Last year's APR (which reflected the 05-06 year) had Maryland below the 925 threshold. This was the same year we had something like 14 wrestlers listed on ACC academic honor rolls for maintaining a 3.0 or greater. We had one guy who, while a good high school student with good SATS, decided to do everything but go to class and flunked out. It wasn't for lack of effort by academic support, etc. We had another guy who our compliance office screwed up on, couldn't wrestle second semester, and the kid just gave up. Then we had two freshmen who struggled first semester, but attained over 3.0 GPAs second semester but, since they would have been ineligble second semester hurt our APR. The APR needs to be adjusted for equivalency sports. Some allowance should also be made for freshmen performance because a lot of kids need to adjust to academics at the college level, not just athletes. | |||||||||||
