For those of you who have already cast your vote in the Hottest Poster poll, here's your chance to weigh in on something wrestling-related... Who are the top five greatest US college wrestlers of all time? (I'm thinking "all-time = since 1928" when the NCAA championships first appeared, but if you are moved to include someone from, say, 1911, rock on.) All I ask is... that you make your list based solely on COLLEGE WRESTLING careers. I do NOT want you to put someone on the list because of his Olympic gold medals, brilliant coaching legacy, stellar NFL career, kick-ass performance in MMA, being a badass in WWE, his humanitarian work alongside Mother Teresa, or any other non-college wrestling factors. Thanks Mark

Plus you will face the wrath of the Hawkeye nation for putting at the bottom of any list. | |

I am surprised to see Gable ranked so "low." It's amazing how a single loss can drop him so much. Look at the man's record. I'm talking each match. The dominance just is striking. Pin after pin. Sanderson seems to be a gimme at #1, but I think he'd be the first to say that he wasn't at Gable's level. As for the rest of the five, I don't think it's as easy as all that. Pat Smith? Come on. Yes, he did win 4 titles, but was he better than Lee Kemp? If you go by titles and record, it's a subjective list. But looking at match-by-match dominance, level of competition, etc., it is vey difficult to come up with THE top five. |
