    Give Henson a shot.

    On what?

I talked with Pat about an hour ago. It was a very difficult decision for him.

He grew and molded the program at Maryland in his five years. There is a terrific group of student-athletes on the team. They are the hardest part for him to leave. Debbie Yow and Chris Boyer made it more difficult for him to leave, not by being jerks, but by realizing that college athletics at this level is about business decisions. Some ADs may have said good riddance, Debbie counter-offered and tried to persuade Pat to stay.

Are there more things in place at Lehigh than Maryland? Yes, they have an active club like Pat was just getting started at Maryland. Their scholarships are endowed, one of our hoped for next steps in building Terp wrestling. Lehigh also has a terrific fan base. But there are also many positives about Maryland, even more with regard to wrestling because of what Pat, the coaching staff, friends and boosters have done.

It came down to family. He and Julie are hoping to have another child. Pat is from the Lehigh area and his parents, and I think his brother, live there. I suspect that, with the salary he will make and the lower cost of living, it will make things easier than being a two-earner household with children in the DC area. For what they paid for their house in my county (which is almost an entry level price) they can probably get a heck of a place near Lehigh.

When a person can look back and honestly say they left things better than when they arrived, they are a success. Pat Santoro was a success at the University of Maryland.

Mr. Santoro has done his job in leaving the cupboard stocked and the program going in the right direction. A president and AD couldn't ask for much more.

    Give it to Henson.

His name has been mentioned to the powers that be.

We hired Martin Novak from Minnesota as our women's tennis coach, and Brenda Frese from the Gophers for women's basketball. I think we need to make an effort to balance the gender ratio of our Minnesota hires.

Sorry to hear about it a Terp. Santoro is clearly one of the best out there. RU hopes we found our Santoro. Time will tell.

Looking at UMD v LU, I think the Craig situation and a couple others of late were more significant to the Lehigh admin than the performance on the mat. Hudson Taylor and some others just the sealed the deal. I truly hope you're not confronted with a VTech situation. Given the DY history I'm sure you'll find another uncut diamond out there and carry on with business as usual.

If Maryland makes a play for Marty, I think J will reassure Marty that he is stepping down within a certain period of time and that the spot is his, as it always has be. That being said, that is why I love this country, creates opportunities for someone like Marty who is a proven commodity in the wrestling world.

    Give it to Henson.
