Not a wrestler in sight. Sigh.

The MMA community is happy they got a few guys in.

Good one: "13 Kobe Bryant: What makes him tough: He's impervious to outside distractions* and plays with a single-mindedness that is seen in few athletes." * Like, say, being charged with sexual assault and buy his way out of it? Great roll model.

Or "18 Ron Artest: Defining moment: In one of the NBA's uglier moments, Artest and Stephen Jackson, then members of the Pacers, charged into the stands and fought with fans in the final minute of a game at Detroit's Palace of Auburn Hills in Nov. 2004." Fight with fans in 2004, get praised in 2008!

A golfer, and a guy where the dogs do all the work in the sport are 1 & 2?!?! What? A racecar driver? A competitive eater?!?!

No wrestlers, no marathoners, no decathletes, no ULTRA-marathoners, WTF?!?!
Jacob Schlottke---Gone too soon, and the world is a little less bright because of it. RIP, brother.

The fact that the MMA guys aren't flip flopped or at the top of the list is sign they don't know what they are talking about. But the biggest indicator is that they have golfers and basketball players and a eating contestant on the list, so I say we throw the list out the window.

Amen. The list caters to the readership, not to the true nature of the sport.

How do you define tough? The ability to take and deliver a shot or ten? To play hurt and still play well? The utter refusal to give in to pressure, circumstance, or more physically imposing foe? To dominate one's opponents or even one's sport? How about the ability to overcome serious personal setbacks, such as a dire injury or illness, and return to the highest level of performance? How about sheer longevity in a punishing, demanding game?

    Those questions define wrestling.

Kobayashi couldn't go 30 seconds with Koscheck.

This from the magazine that's featured a wrestler on its cover only once in 50+ years. I rest my case.

    Mark

PS What kind of coverage did SI give the 2008 NCAAs?
