Thanks Zapp, but if you didn't notice I was just saying Martin's side. Obviously there is a JB/NWMA side to the story also. If you reread my posts I was telling Bluestater exactly what Dart Shark just said in that FloWrestling was able to win the award.
I will smash your face into a car windshield and then take your mother, Dorothy Mantooth, out to a nice seafood dinner and never call her again!

Tell me about it, this morning, I woke up and I shit a squirrel, but what I can't get is the damn thing is still alive. So now, I've got a shit covered squirrel running around my office and I don't know what to name it.

Ok going to chime in on a few thoughts:

    - Copyrighting is a very serious issue. Especially at the college level and with large national tournaments. Someone is paying a lot of money to produce and then broadcast the wrestling. They have every right to not allow another camera in that venue if they so choose, because they own the rights to the entire tournament. I know I learned about this in my Journalism 101 class in college, not to mention every media class I ever took. If you follow the rules and parameters that are outlined you do not get burned. This is not as much the case in high school, but at almost every major university in the country they have some type of media contract.

    - FloWrestling is a good site to go watch videos and they do put some very interesting things up on the site from time to time. They are brining something different to wrestling, I will give them that.

    - For the most part the majority of the major publications/websites/media outlets that are wrestling have gotten along over the years. To have one person come in and just start throwing stones at another is not fair at all. I wish everything could be a large partnership and that everyone would just get along. Our sport needs people to unite in order to make it stronger. It is absurd that people are focusing on something like this when we should be trying to fight to save endangered and dropped programs while continuing to let our sport grow.

I agree with this. But what about meets that are not being videotaped or broadcast by anyone else except Flo? What's the copyright situation in that case? I honestly have no idea, but I assume it still belongs to the presenting association.

It would depend on contract, but most contracts are usually exclusive.

    According to Martin...

Just to add to what Fan said, another huge issue is Martin going up to collegiate athletes and interviewing them without the permission of the school's Sports information department. As a former sports info employee, that drives me nuts. The SIDs are there to protect the kids, and to interview an athlete or coach, you go through the SID, and journalists respect that. I'll tell you something, if it was NCAA basketball where Martin was following athletes into a tunnel and throwing questions at them, he'd be thrown out on his a$$. But because we are all so happy to have any coverage of the sport, he is given a pass.

And if there is no contract for a particular event? I assume that means no one has permission.
