Like I said, graduating with a low GPA will not get you very far after college. The right connections are another story. Since you bring up Bill Gates, why do wrestlers even go to college? Gates doesn't even have a degree.

I am sticking with my view that with a high GPA you got a chance if you are not anti-social but even if you don't have connections. With a low GPA, you better learn to kiss ass big time and hope someone gives you a hand to lick.

In any case, I hope we can at least agree that judging by top ten academic wrestling team scores, wrestlers as a whole are no academic world beaters and we can all hope top ten academic teams would have GPAs of at least 3.3 and higher.

I mean what are GPAs of Cornell, U Penn, Harvard and Columbia teams? Below 3.0? Why did they go to such tough schools then?

    Big,

The easiest way for me to describe the importance of getting good grades is that they give an individual more "options". As you go through your academic career, if you find yourself falling off of the edge before the end, your options for what you can do are limited. Getting good grades allows an individual to continue to choose what he or she wants to do in this world. People that limit their academic career find the path a little bit more narrow.

I also inspire competition in my boys and that extends to the classroom as well. I will also tell you that in highschool I graduated in the Top 5% of my class while participating in three varsity sports. Highschool was not nearly the challenge that college was. College I just told myself to get through in four years, meet lots of people, and hold at least a B average. Thats what I did. I knew that I was going to be opening up a business after college so my trade off was getting a 3.0, getting done and actually enjoying my college career. When Nickerson is 30, ask him how much he enjoyed college.

Exactly for the reason you are arguing against....it's the sheepskin, not the GPA will get them ahead and open doors that others can't kick open.

    Homer,

"Northwestern being on that list is really the only impressive thing."

American University had a NATIONAL CHAMPION and came in 17th as a team at the NCAA tournament.

Remember that 50% of today's doctors finished in the bottom half of their medical school class.........

Yeah, you're right Chet, I thought about mentioning them but didn't for some reason. Good point.
