Thread: Future four time All Americans

Default Future four time All Americans

Thanks to Jason's superb journalisim skills, I go to to look at some numbers I understood. I'm a Lit guy, not a number cruncher by any means, so it was nice to have my learning disability catered too.

That being said, the following jumped out at me. I don't think anyone else has brought this up:

    "5

Number of freshmen who placed at the 2007-08 NCAA Championships. James Nicholson (ODU, 125); Mike Grey (Cornell, 133); Mack Lewnes (Cornell, 165); Jon Reader (Iowa State, 165); Kirk Smith (Boise State, 184)."

How many of these kids become four time AA's? I'll take Smith, Lewnes for sure and Reader and Grey as probable.

In this day and age of media and four time champs, the four time AA might not get enough attention, especially if they were a lower placer. But this is really an accomplishment.

Lewnes may well end up as one of the best to come out of Maryland when his collegiate career is over.

Nicholson is from des moines Iowa and I remember in high school he is relentless in his training. He will make it 4 times for sure unless he gets injured or something like that.

Kirk Smith is actually the only kid who wrestled in high school last year. Lewnes was at the OTC and Grey deferred his year at Cornell and went to some community college or something.

Reader and Nicholson are redshirts ... so Smith, really, is the only real true freshman to place.

Err.... redshirt freshman is still a freshman with the opportunity to be a 4-time All American. And the title of the thread is, "Future four time All Americans".

Just an observation of the obvious (the observations I am best at ).
I am 49, bald, ugly, and don't own a single cool thing. Kids like me though.

I agree, but just pointing out that Smith is the only one of the freshmen who was actually in high school last season. No disrespect intended for the others.

I'd like to see all five do it four times.

As much as I'd like to see all four of them make it four times, its unlikely that they all won't.

Who is it. Who thought Josh churella wouldn't? or LeRoy Vega? I think it will be Nicholson, but how awesome for that program if he did? I think SMith is the real deal. I also think that the second most likely is Reader. He's great, but I think he was awefully close....and the talent pool at this weight becomes very, very deep over the next three years at this weight class.

    My two sense.
