Default Colby Covington to Iowa State

2006-2007 165 pound National JUCO Champ will be transferring to Iowa State next season. Covington committed to Arizona State out of high school as a possible 174. Ended up at Iowa Central for the 2006-2007 season where he won a National Title at 165. Redshirted this season (along with Carr Jr.) and will have three years of eligibility at Iowa State. He hasn't officially signed, but I talked to him in St. Louis and is very excited about being a cyclone.

If he does end up coming, Iowa State's middle weights will be a lot better next season

I heard Colby was changing his mind. Originally he had Iowa and Oklahoma St. As his 1 and 2. Don't know when or why he changed his mind. I know Iowa didn't have a lot of money to offer.

I don't know much about the kid, but how does this effect the team race?

Not sure it does. Iowa was looking for depth at 165. At ISU it creates a log jam at 157-174

Colby finished 3rd at the Midlands. He did get the benefit of a Medical Forefit from I think Matt Lackey. He is a solid kid.

I think that Bluestater's view is probably that it is understandable to give that name to your kid when the kid is the third generation to have that name, but when the kid is the first generation to have that name . . . not so much.
