Default I am now OFFICIALLY a Brent Metcalf fan!

Although I have seen him wrestle several times this year I finally (albeit begrudgingly) gave into the fact that I am a fan. I love the style - GO AFTER IT - all the time SEVEN MINUTES - HARD. The attitude that if your going to beat me it will take a HERCULEAN effort and at least four takedowns to do it. Some other TOP GUYS would fold like a cheap pup tent had they given up two first period takedowns - NOT Mr. Metcalf - It seemed as if he relished the challenge of needing to push even harder to win it. It seemed as if there was NO DOUBT about the outcome in his mind even down 4-1. I have to say - THAT IS the kind of wrestling I WANT TO SEE!!! CONGRATS to him and all the HAWKEYES on their title! Well deserved. So there it is I has to say it and if it's more Metcalf Man-love I guess I think he earned it tonight.
Those of you who think you know it all really annoy those of us who actually do ;)

Lets see if goferphan converts as well. Either he does or we will see much less of him on here now.

I find that I want to hate Metcalf, because Schlatter has been a legend to me for about 5 years now, but when I listen to his interviews, he seems like such a nice guy and totally a great mentallity, I can't help but like him. This does not mean I would root for him against Schlatter or Palmer, but I like watching him and he deserves his title.

I think he has already come out as a Metcalf fan.

I never had the pleasure of seeing Brent Metcalf wrestle live untill this weekend. He is now one of my favorite wrestlers. Congrats hawks!

Same as above - I've looked many places wherein people continuously praised the guy for his skills, and fortunately enough, now I know why. Congrats to him - I believe, prior to the tournament, there was no doubt in anyone's (or most) mind that he would be walking away the 149 lbs. champion. As mentioned, I've never seen him wrestle before, but with what he brought to the table last night, I'd even say that he deserves the MOW award.

If memory serves me well, he's currently a sophomore, and with that being the case - I'm putting money on the next two years that he'll be, once again, walking away champion.

Congratulations to all the other champions as well!

You never know. Schlatter looked untouchable his freshman year as well.

I strongly believe that we'll be seeing otherwise come next year's tournament, as well as the following. You're most definitely right on the sense of "expect the unexpected" and that things can always change throughout time, but Metcalf looks to only keep getting better and better with each match he wrestles. The guy had a smart game plan of "taking it easy" (doesn't go to say that he did nothing) during the first period in which Jenkins abundantly had the upper edge, therefore tiring him out a bit and taking full advantage of that. Not that he really needed it, though as I'm sure he would have walked out 149 lbs. champion, regardless of whatever went down.

Of course, only time will tell as to "will he do it?". Nonetheless, great performance by both men that brought me to calling it one of my favorites of the night.

Good point, Big. Anything can happen to anyone, from nagging injures to loss of motivation, to some young turk that is even better. Enjoy success to the fullest when it happens.............
