Which high school coach? Haha.
It's very sad that he has finished so far from the expectations of himself and so many fans. He was one of the top High School wrestlers of all time, and after his freshman year, how do you not expect him to go on to eternal glory?
I rationalize it to myself that he got complacent, and had a couple injuries. But the injuries shouldn't be an excuse, and I know he doesn't use them as excuses.
Also, he has a history of doing poorly after losing a match. He's like Achilles: terrorizing athlete, but once you strike that heal and he loses his first match, he seems to lose some motivation. For example, after losing his first high school match to Johnstone in his sophomore year at the Ironman, he lost his very next match. He didn't lose again until losing to
Metcalf his senior year (though I maintain that he truly won the match). Later on his senior year, he lost a 4th match to
Mike Miller.
I hope something clicks this offseason, and he regains the mentality that he has possessed in the past. I hope he regains the iron head he had during the summer between his sophomore and junior years of HS, and I hope he regains the heart and drive he wrestled with his freshman year of college.
Here's to a return to domination next year.
