They all put Ohio State at or below 5th, I think they will take 2nd.

    Iowa
    Ohio State
    Penn State
    Michigan

They might, but all 3 guys in the finals are dogs. To take second they either probably are going to need 2 champs, or one if it's Pucillo, and Davis and one of Michigans guys lose. I think the worst case is tied for 5th.

    Number of Finalists
    Iowa - 3
    Ohio State - 3
    Penn State - 2
    Michigan - 2
    Central Michigan - 1
    Oklahoma State - 1
    Iowa State - 1
    Cornell - 1
    Minnesota - 1
    Nebraska - 0

    I based my predictions on...

Iowa - Slaton loses to Scott, Metcalf majors Jenkins, Perry loses to Tannenbaum.

Ohio State - Pucillo matches up very well vs Varner and he will win. Now if either of Jaggers or Bergman win they should be in second.

Penn State - I have Jenkins losing to Metcalf and Davis beating Michalak.

Michigan - Both wrestlers have great, somewhat even matches. I think the seedings will go as planned here, Tannenbaum beats Perry and Luke loses to Gavin. If they both win they get 2nd or 3rd(depending on bonus points), if they both lose they take 6th, if they split the will take 4th.

Nebraska - No wrestlers, stuck at 74, If Michigan splits and doesn't get any bonus points they tie for 4th

Iowa State - I have Varner losing and they stay behind Nebraska behind with 72

Oklahoma State - If Slaton wins, they tie Iowa State with 72

Central Michigan - Michalak loses to Davis, Central Michigan stays at 69

Cornell - Leen loses to Poeta, Cornell stays at 63

Minnesota - Ness loses to Escobedo, Minnesota stays at 61.5

    My Predicted Final Scores
    1. Iowa - 115.5 - 1 Champ
    2. Ohio State - 81 - 2 Champs
    3. Penn State - 76 - 1 Champ
    t4.Michigan - 74 - 1 Champ
    t4.Nebraska - 74 - 0 Champs
    t6.Iowa State - 72 - 0 Champs
    t6.Oklahoma State - 71 - 1 Champ
    8. Central Michigan - 69 - 0 Champs
    9. Cornell - 63 - 0 Champs
    10.Minnesota - 61.5 - 0 Champs

I have only see the top 10 teams going so I don't know if any other team passes the bottom few.

If Ohio State only has Pucillo winning then there is still a good chance Ohio State takes second. That is still assuming Mich and Penn State only have one champ. Ohio State and Penn State would be tied unless either champ scores bonus points.

Looks like your hatred is clouding your judgement (not that you have been accused of clear judgement too often to begin with)

    03/24/2008

ST. LOUIS ? Fourteen of the nation?s top wrestling journalists took their shots at predicting the champions and runner-ups prior to the 2008 NCAA Wrestling Championships on March 20-22 at the Scottrade Center in St. Louis.

The team he covered won the team title at the NCAA Championships, so it was only fitting that Andy Hamilton of the Iowa City Press-Citizen emerged as the expert this year.

Hamilton was followed in the standings by InterMat?s Jason Bryant and returning champion Craig Sesker of USA Wrestling.

Hamilton correctly picked 6 of the 10 champions and 4 of the 10 wrestlers who finished second. He also had Iowa winning the team title. He was the only one to pick Ohio State?s Mike Pucillo to beat Iowa State?s Jake Varner in the 184-pound finals.

Hamilton also had the right winners in Indiana?s Angel Escobedo at 125, Iowa?s Brent Metcalf at 149, Iowa?s Mark Perry at 165, Pitt?s Keith Gavin at 174 and Northwestern?s Dustin Fox at heavyweight.

Bryant and Sesker each picked correct champions in Oklahoma State's Coleman Scott at 133, Metcalf, Perry, Gavin and Fox. They both had Iowa winning the title.

Roger Moore of the Stillwater (Okla.) News Press actually picked the most champions with seven. But Moore had no correct second-place finishers or team finishers.

    FINAL STANDINGS
Andy Hamilton, Iowa City Press-Citizen 34
    Jason Bryant, InterMat 30
    Craig Sesker, USA Wrestling 26
    Mike Finn, WIN Magazine 25
    Jon Gremmels, Quad-City Times 25
Matt Levins, Burlington (Iowa) Hawk Eye 24
Bryan Van Kley, WIN Magazine 24
Karl Vogel, Lincoln (Neb.) Journal Star 24
Roger Moore, Stillwater (Okla.) News Press 23
J.R. Ogden, Cedar Rapids (Iowa) Gazette 23
    Gary Abbott, USA Wrestling 22
Gary Blockus, Allentown (Pa.) Morning Call 17

I'll take second fiddle to Andy ... He said "he peaked at the right time."
