thanks for the fast updates, much appreciated!

I have to stop going over my buddies house for the BTN channel, his wife thinks I'm a freak, as well as mine.

It is a NCAA or Big Ten rule that only 8th place finishers can get a wild card. It was done about 5 or 6 years ago.

Definately not an NCAA rule since they have no such jurisdiction over a conference. Likely to be an agreement among Big Ten coaches though.

Truly, the only thing that the NCAA has to say about qualifiers is that the champs go. 2-8 going is the decision of the conference.

The two guys I was listening to on the radio talked about it for about 5 minutes. They weren't sure about it. Brands had said the rule was enacted about 5 or 6 years ago to prevent wrestlers from going 0-2 and going to the NCAA's. It maybe a Big Ten thing. I know you have to finish in 8th place to get a WC.

You can always use the old "political" argument too, sending Saf would have given J ten guys to take.

Regardless of how it happened, I still think Saf is more deserving than someone who went 1-7 in Conference duals, if it turns out that Kinser was the guy who got it.

Edit: I just checked the Indiana site, and Kinser did indeed get one.
Great points. The Big Ten coaches are idiots. Saf was #11 in the nation. I think there may have been some definite bias regarding sending 10.
The NCAA selection committee just screwed the Gophers on seeding.

I don't know if the coaches are biased about sending 10. You'd think they would want a Big 10 team to win NCAAs, and Minny has a better shot than Indiana, so they would rather have Minny with 10 than Indiana with 8.

The only way I would say they wouldn't rather have Minny with 10, is if the coaches thought Iowa was going to win and they held Saf back because they thought it would hurt Iowa's chances, and they didn't think Minny would win anyway.
You do the math..... I'll do the alfredo!! HAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!
