Thread: Is Iowa Back?

    Default Is Iowa Back?

Comments like this make me want to stick it in Iowa's ear:

Iowa coach Tom Brands brimmed with confidence Friday. "If we're consistent, I don't think this will be as wide-open as everyone thinks,'' he said. "That's probably a bold statement. But I believe in the guys, and they believe in themselves.''

Well Tom, here's to you not getting a Big Ten or an NCAA Team Title this year. Go suck a egg. Talks cheap. Its game day baby.

I don't think anyone else in the world agree with the saying "talk is cheap" than Tom Brands.
I wish I could kick Matt Dragon in the balls. In his Dragonballz.

I am not sure why we are even going to have it if its not even going to be close according to Tommy B.

Minnesota Gophers wrestling coach J Robinson to take page from Herb Brooks
    Pioneer Press

Article Last Updated: 03/06/2008 10:42:44 AM CST

J Robinson, the Gophers' motivational wrestling coach, will take a page from Herb Brooks' famous speech before his 1980 U.S. Olympic hockey team won the gold medal to remind his defending NCAA champions — especially the seniors — of the opportunity they have entering this weekend's Big Ten Conference championships at Williams Arena.

"They were born for this time, to have this chance, and what they do now they will carry with them for the rest of their lives," Robinson will tell his team. "Very few people will get to where they are, so seize the moment. They have to realize what's at stake. And it's important that it's fun and exciting for them."

I prefer this kind of motivation.

We could talk about J Rob saying this Minnesota team "might be one of the best teams in wrestling history."

    LOL, yes we could.

That was a pretty strong statement. I kid you not, I snorted when I read that. I can tell you this, if they win Big Ten's and then go on to win NCAA's this year, it will be his most memorable Team Title. I won't say its a Top Ten team however unless they do 8 AA's.

I guess I actually consider Minnesota's Team from 2001 with 10 All American's Minnesota's best team and I certainly consider that Team in the Top Ten Team's of all times.

Just pointing out that all coaches are prone to hyperbole! Minny's '01 team was excellent. No doubt about it. However, I don't think that this years Minny team can be considered a Top 10 team all time unless they win Big 10's and break a scoring record at NCAA's. Seven dual losses is 7 dual losses.
