J Robinson, the Gophers' motivational wrestling coach, will take a page from Herb Brooks' famous speech before his 1980 U.S. Olympic hockey team won the gold medal to remind his defending NCAA champions ? especially the seniors ? of the opportunity they have entering this weekend's Big Ten Conference championships at Williams Arena.

"They were born for this time, to have this chance, and what they do now they will carry with them for the rest of their lives," Robinson will tell his team. "Very few people will get to where they are, so seize the moment. They have to realize what's at stake. And it's important that it's fun and exciting for them."

I prefer this kind of motivation.

Great speech by Brooks. I saw a documentary on the team about the same time the movie "Miracle" was released and I enjoyed it more than the movie. The 1980 hockey team has special meaning for me since I was playing hockey in those days and had followed many of the Boston area players through their college days.

I played hockey back then too but in Iowa...the more I think of the that, the more it makes me laugh. Actually one of my best friends in Iowa had moved there from Michigan and he was an absolute phenom in Iowa. He went on to play for South Dakota and played on some Jr. National Teams. Good times but yes, that Miracle on Ice team was something special.

Hockey in Iowa? Probably like wrestling in Massachusetts.

I think they used to have a minor league team in Des Moines if I am not mistaken.

Well Tom, here's to you not getting a Big Ten or an NCAA Team Title this year. Go suck a egg. Talks cheap. Its game day baby.

To answer your question....YES and it's very obvious. Can't fault the guy for the high level of confidence, and if he didn't think they were going to walk away with the title, I can't see him opening his mouth. Last year at this time he was slammin his guys for the lack of fire and drive, so I believe the man says what he see's!

Sorry Gof, but your going to have a rough few weeks! The turmoil continues!

Hey, the beer bet is going to be back on my friend as soon I figure out WHO your actual team is and WHO it is that you pull for.

I just don't want Iowagians everywhere trying to jump from the tops of their second story buildings in downtown Iowa City if the Hawks don't win 10 Big Ten Individual Titles and bring home the NCAA Title by 100 points.

There will be lots of broken ankles.

That's odd I actually wouldn't mind a few of them taking the jump. But I think it's from the second story of their trailer parks isn't it? Just kidding Iowa fans you're still my second favorite D1 wrestling team....in Iowa.
The NCAA selection committee just screwed the Gophers on seeding.

(Chuckles) I didn't want to say it but since you did, I will go along with that. Hey its Big Ten day, I am not going to sit on my hands and sweat it out. I am pulling for my beloved Gophers even from down here in blustery Florida with my 72 degree weather.

I have some good news and some bad news from my wife today.

The good news: She is leaving for the day to go spend some time in Orlando with her friends from Minnesota.

The bad news: She is leaving my three boys with me 5,3, and 5 months. I am running to the store to go get some supplies to stock up for the day.
