Default Has anyone ever placed in D1;D2 & D3 in their career?

Preliminary Disclamer-[I am hoping and praying that this is the most inanane post I ever sponsor, but my son has some weird-ass skin infection and we can't go back to practice until we see the Dr. tomorrow, and the fantasy league is kidnda done,... so I am suffering from mild to moderate wrestling detox, thus the following prison wall-esque question...]

Do any of you Brothers or Sisters know of anyone who has placed in all three major NCAA Championships? I know of a few guys who have wrestled in all three Nationals (Rich Sykes of Humbolt State whom I referenced in q thread on the"Other"forum:[www.thematforums.com/myforum/?show_topic=49591&forum_id=3&pagenum=3[/url] 3. comes to mind, but that's about it. Ialso know of another stout soul who was seeded in all three nationals, but beyond him, I don't know if anyone else who managed to medal in all three nationals. Any one else have any idea?

Hmmm, dunno about all three. Everybody knows about Haselrig of course, but that's not the issue.

    Brother MoJo:

Unless someone changed schools it would have been tough to do. The old College Division split into Divs II and III prior to the 1973-74 season, so it's never been a hierarchy, so to speak.

There were some schools back then that still maintained NAIA and NCAA status, so guys would compete in the NAIAs, then in the Div II or III a couple of weeks later.

Like I said, I guess someone would have to research guys that transferred.

I had a team mate (Dave Krivus) at Maryland for a short time. He left Washington and Jefferson and transferred to Maryland but was there just for the Fall semester. He and I were pretty even in the room at 134, but he transferred BACK to W&J the second semester and was Div III runner-up at 142! Kind of showed me the difference in the levels at the time since I couldn't crack the lineup of a middling Div I program!

If it happened, Yukiyama would have the ability to uncover it. Unfortunately he doesn't post here. For some reason I think he has all of his facts in a searchable database. As the Terp pointed out, it would be someone that transferred DIII to DII or vice versa and repeated placing in the DI final. I'm not aware of any schools that flip flopped DIII / DII for wrestling, though as pointed out in the other thread, F&M migrated from College division to DI in wrestling way back when.

Here is the link to Jay's database: http://www.wrestlingstats.com/

A great resource that has cleared the air of a lot of people that used to blow smoke about their accomplishments!!

Back in the early 80's. D3 power Humbolt St. (CA.) finally succumbed to the pressure of the Nor Cal conference (all were D2 schools) and shifted up to D. That 1st year in D2, they had at least 2 guys (Adrian Smedley and Rich Sykes) who made the D2 finals and, as per the rules at the time, were able to qualify for the D1 Nationals. As both guys were D3 AA's the year before, they then became among the very few people to be AA in D2 &D3. Neither, however, made AA in the D1 nationals.

My good buddy Wayne Cole of Iowa St. (2x AA) wrestled at D3 Simpson College for a year or two and I am pretty sure he was seeded, if not a placer in D3. His situation is less unique as there are a good many guys who wrestled in D2 or D3 who went on to D1 AA status.

I wrestled at a D3 school my freshman and soph. years (Cal State Stanislaus) and then transfered to D2 San Francisco where I placed twice. I qualified for D1 nationals my senior and Jr. years but didn't place either year. I was seeded 4th in D3 as a soph, 1st in D2 as a Senior and 7th in D1 as a senior. So I was close to placing in all 3, but no banana.

It still seems to me that I recall someone being a tough AA in a D3 school, transfering to a D2 school and winning it and then placing in the D1's that he qualified for.

This doesn't answer your question, but still kind of an interesting and unique story that's kind of similar. My soph year I wrestled this kid from Wisconsin Parkside for 3rd-4th @NAIA's, (like Terp mentioned, this University maintained multi status with both NAIA & DII) then the next week he was runner up @ DII's that qualified him for DI's. So basically in the month of March the guy hit 3 National tournaments, I don't think many people can say that.
