Thats a great shot of a great move. As regrettable () as it was, the shots of Palmer getting the stick against Dustin that are floating around are pretty money as well.
Look at the gap under the shoulders. That is a really tough call for a ref to make. Remember it's shoulder blade, not the back, and that ref has a pretty good view compared to Metcalf v Caldwell.

Metcalf wasn't pinned, he had a shoulder blade (his left) a mile off the mat. The ref was swayed by Cauldwell's bench screaming for the pin.
It's a good thing for Darrion that they called that, Metcalf would've ended up wearing him out (like Bubba). On that note, Metcalf better learn to stay off his back a little better and stay out of danger, its the only thing he really needs to work on, but its something that could keep him off the top of the podium. Sometimes it seems that he needs to think strategy a little more.
Metcalf wasn't pinned then, but was pinned earlier in the sequence, if the doofus ref hadn't wasted thirty seconds climbing on top of them, and called it when it was, it'd have been all good.
Plus he'd have been the one that got tired, Caldwell could have chilled there for the rest of the period if need be, Metcalf wasn't going anywhere.
Caldwell has shown to that he can go seven strong with the best too, with his Churella, and O'Connor wins out in Vegas.

Yeah, that Vegas tourney was impressive, particularly his blasting of Churella. I think the OConnor match was a bit different, I do think JP was starting to wear him out toward the end, but definitely Cauldwell's match (and tourney). I think JP and Metcalf could take him next time, but Churella's got to be a little shell shocked after that whoopin'.
Maybe you're right about Metcalf wearing out after that spadle. I'll bet he felt pretty limber for a while anyway.
but I think Metcalf could wear down Caldwell more than JP or Josh could
Out of all the 149lb'ers Caldwell is the only wrestler that scares me the most, for Brent to face
Why -- Caldwell pinned him, fluke or not. Metcalf does get tossed to his back quite a bit and exposes his back frequently
and Caldwell has that gift to stick opponents early
Metcalf needs be cautious with him for 2 periods then I think he is more safe, and likely to win....

Is there any thread you boys can't turn into a Metcalf/Schlatter thread?
This year, Spladle=Cauldwell/Metcalf. And where there's Metcalf, Schlatter is soon to follow. Seems to be the nature of things.
149 does seem to pop up quite a bit, but a lot more is going on there than, say, 174.
