Nice win for the Buckeyes. The only big surprise being the pin by Jaggers.
I really like the way Sponseller brings it, but I'm going to hold off on making any brash statements until he beats one of the top tier guys. We'll have a better idea of how he stacks up next Friday when he faces Coughlin. Then the real test is February 10th when Michigan comes to town.

That's why Jaggers is so dangerous.

Penn State I haven't read much the last couple days or talked to my friends at Penn State... has anybody heard a reason that Strayer wrestled instead of Garrett Scott? I know they had postponed their wrestle-off that was supposed to happen last week, did they finally do it and Strayer won?
I also was thinking the coaches may not have been thrilled with the way Scott kinda seemed to give up in the last 10 seconds against Leclere and not continue to try for the escape.
Still.... I would have liked to have seen how he would have done against Jaggers, especially since Strayer lost to Jaggers at Nat'l Duals.

Then again, they were saying that Erwin wouldn't wrestle either, so take the info with a grain of salt.

9-2 over Rella is a damn nice win. I'm becoming more and more impressed by this kid.

However, he didn't get a chance to wrestle Perry when Iowa came, and when they wrestled CMU at duals Stewart wasn't in the lineup. The Perry match in particular would have been a great barometer of where he is at the college level.
Don't get me wrong. I'm as impressed as anyone. The way he took apart Kerr was something to see. It reminded me of Metcalf, in that it seemed like he got stronger as the match went on and he totally broke Kerr mentally. I haven't seen St John arena with that much intensity and noise for one wrestling match since Ray Mendoza knocked off Oostendorp in bigten semi finals.
I guess I'm just being cautiously optimistic, and I'm more the type to enjoy things for what they are in the moment rather than to try to project what could be. If you get a chance to see him in person, he's worth the price of admission all by himself. | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
