Tournaments Joined: 0 Tournament Wins: 0 | Most likely returning NCAA champ to NOT repeat I see this kind of topic show up sporadically among posts, so I thought we could devote a thread to naming one of this years returning National Champs (that includes the likes of previous NCAA champs, like D Schlatter, though I believe he's the only past champ that didn't win it last year) that you believe is most likely to NOT repeat.
Please refrain from slandering any wrestlers, but do include a slight tidbit of reasons, like "this other guy just got THAT much better".
I'll start with Gillespie, merely due to the continuing emergence of Poeta, along with CP Schlatter's victory over him. Also, I believe Henning's unique style will give fits to someone who has never experienced it before (and my homerish ways)

My reason is that 25 is pretty brutal with the 3 sophs of Escobedo, Ness and Precin. Then add Falck and Gardner, that's a tough road for the repeat. But on the other hand, if he's on like last year, he may walk away from St Louis as a 2x Champ!

149: Gillispie
165: Perry
197: Glenn
Is that all the returning champs?
All have look vunerable at times, except Glenn and he still has to go through Phil Davis to get #2.
My pick is Gillispie as well. Poeta is the reason.

I guess maybe everyone could rank them 1-4 (or 5, if you include DS) most likely to NOT repeat, with 1 being the least likely to repeat, and 4/5 being the most likely to repeat.

He had Sammie the bull in his corner last year too.

2: Gillespie - Poeta looks like the class of this weight
2: Donahoe - So many good 125'ers out there, beat twice last weekend
5: Schlatter - Although we should know more in a few weeks
7: Glenn - Davis is on a tear, plus Glenn gets no respect even from me
8: Perry - I know I wrote he'd not win unless he picks it up, but when he's on, he's on.

Ed Banach Tom Brands
Lincoln McIlravy Cael Sanderson
Pat Smith
Joe Williams | | |

That being said, I can't disagree with:
1. Dhoe
2. Gillespie
3. Schlatter
4. Perry
5. Glenn
Glenn just LOOKED the part last year and I think come NCAA's, he will get that look back again and just make it happen. 197 is deep though so it won't be easy. Its possible that Davis doesn't get through his side of the bracket in my opinion. Then again, he has issues putting his singlet on straight from time to time so what can you expect.

Gillespie can beat Poeta and CP, Henning may give him the most trouble
Perry and GG repeat
I'm going with Ness at 125, not Donahoe (poor Hazewinkel, great wrestler)
Ness at 125
Scott at 133
Mendes or Rivera 141 Metcalf 149
GG 157
Perry 165
Gavin 174
