Default What is the point of NY state collegiate championships?

This tournament is going on this weekend. Hofstra's best will be at CAA duals and Cornell doesn't have this tourney on the schedule.

Its too bad because I think it can really be a great tourney for bragging rights between Cornell, Hofstra, Buffalo, Columbia, Army and some good DIII wrestlers from other teams.

Coach Greenlee down at Ohio U has been trying to get something like that going down there, but for some reason not all of the teams are open to the idea.

Even though Cornell doesn't schedule it, I think I have seen some wrestlers there every year. Not usually the top guys. I think it is a wear and tear issue and with Missouri next weekend and so many guys already hurt, I guess I see the logic. I think if all the top teams made the commitment to go it might happen but with limited tournament slots, I guess teams like Hofstra and Cornell don't want to burn one. Does seem a shame though.

Used to be an interesting tourney. It was the one place we got to see Matt Hammill wrestle DI guys. He won this tournament every year I remember him in it. But as the NY DI teams got better, they started sending the equivalent of their JVs because the level of competition just wasn't as high as they could get at other tournaments.
