It's a jab at the 5 wrestlers that transfered from Virginia Tech to Iowa and gave up a year of eligibility. Metcalf, Slaton, Borschel, Leclere and Leet.

Leet is only kid who is not starting.

Metcalf was really the only guaranteed starter the other guys have worked themselves into the line-up.

It's also important to know, Angelfish, that 3 of the 4 starters are from Iowa. The jabs don't bother me, just know that Slaton, Leclere, & Borschel are native Iowans that followed their mentor (Tom Brands) to Va Tech when he received the head coaching position out there. After a season at Va Tech, Iowa hired Brands as their head coach so naturally the kids followed him to Iowa and all but Leet earned the starting job. Not w/o a cost though, they all lost 1 year of eligibility and are starting their varsity careers as Sophmores. All of the transfers have been extremely successful thus far and a big reason why the Hawks are vastly improved this season.

I have to tell you to hear people still going after Iowa more than a year later in regards to the V-Tech/Hawkeye thing is pretty pathetic. I am over it. Had these guys transferred and then struggled to make starting line-up I would be MORE bothered by it. Because they have all found quick success after coming over and are contributing in a huge way after having given up a year of eligibility, I for one am over it. They improved much faster than I thought they were capable of much like Iowa State last year.

Just be happy that now that Okie State has taken a back seat that there is a new "Cowboy" with a Black Hat on. Like I said, its great for the sport and in all honesty a great story.

Wiltz is absolutely right I was just having a little fun with the Iowa fans. I just brought it up because others always want to bring up DS and Metcalf so I went back into the old bag of (tired ass) tricked and pulled up the Iowa/VT thing.

Fact is this year I honestly think there are 3-4 teams that could win nationals depending on who is healthy and who wrestles well. I would never have said this at the beginning of the year when it looked like a 2 horse race with MN far out front. A lot has changed and will continue to change until March.

I guess I knew it was a jab and I knew it was about LeClere, Borschel, Metcalf and Slaton, but I wasn't sure about the basis for it. I hear that people are "over it" but, not having been paying a whole lot of attention a year ago, I'm not really sure what people are "over." Back then, did people think it was a bad decision for Brands to bring those guys back with him? (Sorry if I'm bringing up a sore subject. And, goldengof, I get it that you were kidding around. I'm just interested in the history here.)

It's all good and don't mistake me for goferphan as he doesn't like it. We are two different people. Obviously it wasn't a bad decision by Brands or the wrestlers from VT as they are both thriving in Iowa. As someone mentioned I think 3 of them are natives so if Brands had been at Iowa a year or two earlier they would have gone there anyways.

They're not just natives, they're from the county directly north of Iowa City. All three are multiple state champs from one of the best graduating classes in Iowa history. Some of their fathers wrestled for Iowa. They came home. Brands was still on the Hawkeye staff when they first visited Iowa. You can read about it in "Four Days to Glory."

But what about Kish's injury? It was tough to watch him try to wrestle in big pain. Is it a back injury? If so, he was a real trooper to wrestle. How soon will he recover?
