Mark Perry Jr. pleads guilty to public intoxication

Police arrested a University of Iowa national champion wrestler for public intoxication this morning after officers allegedly saw him standing the middle of the street yelling.

    According to Iowa City police:

It was about 12:56 a.m. when officers responded to Muscatine and Iowa avenues for a report of a man standing in the street and yelling profanities. Officers arrived to find Mark Andrew Perry, Jr., 22, of Coralville, standing in the street with his arms crossed and yelling. Perry told officers he was drinking downtown and at multiple house parties.

Police said Perry smelled of alcohol, had slurred speech and trouble keeping his balance. Perry also had a small abrasion on his right foreman and told officers he did not know how he got it. Once in the patrol car, Perry was singing and rambling. A post-arrest breath test showed Perry?s blood-alcohol level at .200, more than twice the legal limit of .08.

Perry pleaded guilty this morning to the public intoxication charge. The court ordered him to pay $182 in fines and court costs.

Perry last month won the 165-pound title last month at the NCAA wrestling tournament.

Wow, it's tough to blow a .200, he really is an overachiever. I blew a .18 long ago (acutally I think it's more like .018) and I was toasted.

I'd imagine you'd have been a 0.18... legal limit in MN and IA is 0.08, So he was probably pretty liquored up, but its fairly possible he never even had a hang over.. must have been on heck of a song to get the IC police away from arresting underage tobacco users.

How many Iowa wrestlers will get charged with public intox? I've lost track of them all. Do other schools have this problem?

Who else besides TShirt? Most all college athletes go out and have a good time (Party) and Perry wasn't doing anything more than anyone else. IC PD is the problem......they don't have anything else to do.

This brings back a funny story about Alger getting in trouble at either the Feildhouse or Sports Column....a officer was about to arrest him for something dumb and Royce asks the officer if he knew who he was? The officer said "no" and Royce said "good" and ran off.

    IC PD Sucks!

Meenelly? Martinez? The guy who was selling drugs B____ (he wasn't on the team very long). It just seems like every year, arrests occur. I know I'm missing some.

Except that Penrith, by all accounts (and there were many), earned the reputation. Good to see that he, like many of us, grew out of it.

Standing in the middle of the street drunk, and yelling, gets you arrested in Iowa City? Wow. I should have been arrested YEARS ago.
