    That's pretty funny.

Don't you think the Esc/TD was just a little questionable?

Another theory of mine is that Scott gassed after his lungs filled with perfume during the cheerleader pileup.

Just got done watching the match, and it looked like his intention was to send Scott into the cheerleaders.

It was an interesting little match between #1 v. #2. Scott hit the same move, with the same set up for all three of his takedowns, and then didn't do much of anything on top.

But like what happens a lot, he won the match on the terms that he was allowed. He was definitely gassed out at the end though.

Yes - but it sure looked like Scott didn't want to be released.

First, I must say that the crowd (14,000+) was deafening when the Hawks came out of the tunnel and loud for the introductions. Ashmore almost pulled an upset to begin the meet when he caught Falck in a cradle late in the 3rd. Charlie powered him over to score a reversal late to win the match.

Then OSU's seniors did what seniors are supposed to do - they took the crowd out of it. Scott did what you need to do against Slaton and finished his takedowns quickly. Slaton came back in the 3rd on conditioning. If there had been 10 more seconds on the clock Slaton would have taken it to overtime and then won. Scott could barely stand by then.

Right now, Nathan Morgan is a better wrestler than LeClere and showed it. You all know that I am a Hawkeye through and through, but for some reason I like Nathan Morgan - maybe it's that baby face.

Metcalf punished Fuentes who, during the match, was penalized for one excessive head slap but could have been called for others and for a vicious reverse head butt. However, Metcalf looked very tired at the end of the match.

Morningstar was Morningstar - dive, get an ankle and stop.

Diefenbach made Perry chase him all through the first period and Mark looked tired. As he is prone to do, Perry got sloppy and got taken down. My seats are fairly close to the mat and I had a good view of the "exposure" and I don't think 2 back points should have been awarded. Dieffenbach had the hold for 2 or 3 seconds, but it didn't appear (through my black and gold glasses) that he tilted Perry for more than a second. The location of our seats also allows us to see the wrestlers' faces as they walk of the mat. Perry was ashen. Who knows whether it was from the loss, having a weight control issue yesterday or (as my wife suggested) he was ill. I'm really not trying to make excuses for him, but he did look terrible when he left the arena.

Brandon Mason effectively dashed the Hawks' hopes with the win at 174. He was allowed to ride parallel with the legs in and without making any real effort to turn Borschel and rode him out. That is my pet peeve with many college officials. I know you'll think that sour grapes, but if you get a chance watch the videos and compare what Mason did to what Keddy did at 184.

Speaking of Keddy - he dominated Hill. I think he just keeps improving.

197 was the predicted Hawkeye train wreck. Loera is just too small for this weight class.

Fields scored on a single leg and had an extra escape because Rosholt took 2 injury timeouts.

Worthless trivia - Randy Lewis' family sat directly in front of me and he came up and sat with them during the last 2 matches. Lincoln McIlravy was on the aisle (as I am) with his family 4 rows in front of me. On his way to join his family, Randy stopped to talk to Lincoln. Think about it - right there in front of me - 5 NCAA championships, a world bronze, an Olympic bronze and an Olympic gold. I got a little starstruck.

BTW - God has blessed the McIlravys and their kids look like his wife. Boy, they're cute!

I think you give slaton way too much credit or scott not enough, scott dominated that entire match up until about the last 30 seconds where slaton was the beneficiary of some bad calls. As for scott not doing much on top I totally disagree he was looking for turns, just because he wasnt able to find any doesnt mean he was stalling.

You said to compare how mason rides to how keddy rides but how is that a fair comparision? Mason is an undersized 174 pounder who's absolutely BRUTAL with legs in while keddy is an ogre at 184 that was able to simply overpower hill. Obviously their styles are going to be different. if you have both legs in how is it possible to NOT be parralel? he was looking for a turn and he almost had it a few times thats why he didnt get dinged for stalling (despite fitzgerald makin some truely aweful stalling calls last night).

Im not an okie state fan either but I think you arent giving them enough credit, they came in and beat the hawkeyes when they werent supposed to and none of the supposed toss up matches was even close.

I admit that I may be watching through those "black and gold glasses". Believe me, I am giving OSU a ton of credit (read tomorrow's blog). My comment about comparing Mason to Keddy was about the officiating - not the wrestlers. On principle, I don't like allowing wrestlers to put both legs in for extended periods of time. It makes for really boring wrestling. When the Steiners did it, they turned the guys quickly. To me, letting a guy stay in that position for more than 20 seconds without back points is not good for the sport. Stalemate it and start again.

Borschel was working hard to get out and got warned for stalling. Keddy was constantly out to the side trying arm bars, etc and Hill was just trying to base out. I just don't think the 2 matches were called the same.

You are all probably right about my interpretation of the Scott/Slaton match. I'm becoming as much of a Slaton fan as I am an Ironside fan and I'm probably not being objective. My bad.
