Screw Fleeger, HE's the washout. Guy advanced more rounds through tournaments on his own "injury" victories than through wrestling two years ago. He was going to try it in the title match but if he did he would have been crucified. Funny how he couldn't continue in any of those matches but was always there to "gut it out" in the next rounds.

How you feel about Reiter is not an issue with me but my memories of Fleeger's run through that season in regular season (dodging everyone to protect his seed at Big Tens), Big Ten's where he won a couple of matches and then inj defaulted the rest of the way in and then his advancement at Nationals that year will be his legacy.
Your point is made here gofer.....

but lets be serious.....Fleeger was waaaay better than Reiter

It wasnt 6-2 fleeger was only up by a point or two I believe. Yeah Fleeger was way more TALENTED then reiter but mentally he definitely wasnt the complete package, I could have seen mack pulling off the upset if the match went the full distance.

Fleeger was a senior developmentally and Reiter only a sophomore, how can a match that took place two years ago even begin to determine who the better wrestler truly was? We can't know because the match was never completed and Reiter's book is yet to be finished.

I have respect for Fleeger's body of work over the span of his career, but again, its how he went out that is his legacy to me. I look at his results when I see he is still doing some competing but only to see whether he got through an entire tournament without an inj default advancement.

As for what he is doing, I think he is hanging out on the sidewalk at McDonald's this winter feigning slipping on the ice and then trying to get free gift certificates from the unsuspecting managers.

    Hey goferphan,

I know that you really dislike Fleeger -- it's been expressed many a time. And I can see where you are coming from in terms of your logistics for disliking a wrestler who bumped a MN guy into the consolation brackets in a controversial situation.

However, I just think it's beating a dead horse to bring this up every time Fleeger's name is mentioned -- even when the topic is completely unrelated to the 2006 NCAA tournament. It's one thing if you brought it up on threads relating to the 2006 incident, but to keep bringing it up every time his name is mentioned -- especially on a thread discussing one of his specific techniques -- is totally hater overload.

I don't disrespect your opinions. But seriously, the McDonald's comment is a bit uncalled for. We all have our different opinions on people, but what I have liked about this message board is that the athlete bashing is minimal -- if not non-existent.

I hope this doesn't come off as b#tchy in any way since I don't mean it like that, it just would be nice to keep the athlete bashing to a minimum, especially when events in the past are said and done and there is nothing that can be done to change that.

Fleeger played by the exact pu$$y rules that NCAA established and that goferphan loves so much. goferphan, if you want wrestlers to throw each other like men, start watching Freestyle and Greco.

DH, you are right as I let it go too far. It was just a simple kleenex comment but I allowed Drop to bait me. My bad.

That being said, I am not quite sure what Big is saying here.

What I am saying is that it is part of NCAA rules to penalize wrestlers for dangerous throws/slams. In freestyle they would just keep wrestling.

Lets face it the same moves that would draw cheers at a FR/GR tourney would draw boooos in college. Folkstyle has rules for little girls when it comes to throws!

I happen to be a big Fleeger fan. I thought he was well on his way to winning anyways but as DH said this horse had been beaten to death many a time.

Also I think one of my favorite moments in the history of this board was when "JohnnyThompsonno1" and other were going through this same song and dance then were straighten out by the man himself.

This is a true story when I was a senior in high school and wrestled at St. Benedicts high school tourney, the same high school Mocco went to before Blair.

I was supposed to wrestle St. Benedicts' freshman wrestler that had no chance against me. Their coach comes up to me before the match and warns me that if I slam him they will disqualify me right away. So, I take him down and he tries to get up. I lift him up and slam him right into the mat. The guy withdrew with an injured shoulder and I was disqualified.

I never try to hurt people on purpose but please don't step on the mat against me if you are afraid of getting slammed!
