Our friend DH posted the following addition to the blog

"I recently stumbled upon this organization to which I made a small donation -- I thought was a great cause and is also related to combat sports. It teaches MMA to high-risk youth in Southern California. I though that the mission was similar in a sense to what Beat the Streets and other urban programs are doing. Pass the word on about it to any MMA fans that you might know! The founder is a former wrestler.

Here's a comment from a blog reader on flowrestling:

"Regarding worthy causes, I've got one for you: Mississippi Wrestling. For those of you that do not know, wrestling in Mississippi is essentially non-existent. While there are many high schools that are interested in starting teams, there are only two active high school teams and one active club in the entire state.

Being that Mississippi is not the wealthiest state in the union, our main problem is the cost of mats. If I could find some used mats for a good price (or a very wealthy and generous individual who loves wrestling), we might be able to get the jumpstart that we need to bring wrestling to Mississippi. If you have any desire to help, in any way, please, contact me (hubbacm@gmail.com). Thank you."

Anybody interested?

Here is another worthy wrestling cause. Josiah Quincy Upper School is an urban high school in Boston that makes a difference through wrestling, their only competitive sport. The meets are held in an auditorium (they don't have a gym.) They dress in the library. The coaches cover expenses for the team out of pocket. They emphasize academic improvement, and they're seriously competitive, challenging the better teams. Read about it:

grapplefan,

What a great story! Thanks for sharing. I didn't find contact information in the article - where might someone send a check if so inclined?

BTW - are you still going to CF for National Duals?
