Those that have been there, what do you all suggest as far as getting Midlands tickets - order ahead of time or buy them when you get there?

I've been there many times and never felt the need to buy tickets ahead of time, but many do so to have better finals seating. I always sat near the top where there was more room to spread out and be comfortable.

I hope I don't offend anyone, but I love the tournament but I don't like the venue.

I usually just buy when I get there, and I've always had decent seats.

And you're definitely not offending me by saying you don't like the venue! Welsh Ryan does not feel like a college arena. It feels much more like a high school gym.

i am sorry to hear that our arena isnt quite luxurious enough for you. unfortunately for you and your ilk, and fortunately for NU students our administration is too busy sinking its $6billion endowment into academic endeavours. academics is the number priority of a university isnt it?

the high school gym is more than sufficient for a school with 8000 undergrads, especially considering about a quarter of the student population will never attend a single sporting event while they are at NU. enjoy the wrestling meet...if you want to see the best of NU attend a class

It's probably past the point where it matters, but it seemed odd to me that someone would come onto a wrestling website and attack a wrestling fan who pointed out that the wrestling gym (arena) is below standard. Your basic point seemed to be "Yes, the gym sucks, but wrestling is extremely unimportant to us. Don't worry about how bad our gym is, we only care about academics"

That doesn't change the fact that your gym sucks.

I spoke with my cousin, an NU grad with a degree in chemistry (he's working on his Ph.D at UC-Santa Barbara right now) about this very subject. He's part of that one quarter who never attended a game, and he was embarrassed by the "arena." Stanford has figured out how to balance athletics and academics; why can't Northwestern? NU insists on being a part of the Big Ten - a conference built on the idea of having strong academics and athletics. When their facilities are not up to the rest of the conference, it's going to get pointed out. Hiding behind academics doesn't work. What would work is pointing out that NU doesn't have the land to build a new arena, and that land in Evanston is hardly cheap. It also might be worthwhile to mention that Welsh-Ryan is NU's only arena, so since it is so heavily utilized, there isn't a good time to renovate it.
