149: Dustin will probably catch some heat for this match being 2-1, but I don't think its deserved. Burroughs backed up immediately off just about every start in the center, and when you're wrestling a guy like Burroughs who's so long its ridiculous to go in and shoot, and shoot, and shoot, you'll get taken down. Dustin did a nice job moving forward through out, he just missed on a gator roll off a little half shot by Burroughs, and he nearly turned him in the third with his rebar. Burroughs is just a frustrating guy to wrestle.

157: Again, not a ton to say CP by fft. Would have loved to see him take on Oliver

165: First time seeing Glasser against a big time opponent. He just seemed to be trying to rush things, and as a result got sloppy in certain situations. Those two takedowns he gave up in the last 10 seconds of the first and second periods hurt him, and then after he'd come back to tie, with :16 seconds left he basically just sagged on Dwyer on top, I don't know if he was hoping for OT or what, but he really didn't make an effort to try and break Dwyer down.

174: Typical Dretsch, Browne is a guy like most that he's pretty evenly matched with. These guys are probably about 50/50 with each other. Just a very, very odd match. I'd still like to see Dretsch get back to working his double unders on guys instead of just his under over.

184: This was a match I'd been interested in seeing ever since Jones went on his pinning rampage at National Duals after Manning pulled him out of redshirt two years ago. Kish, like most guys he wrestles out classes him on the feet. However in the third, he's got to have something more than that tripod stand up, especially against long lanky guys like Jones, and even more specifically Varner.

Regardless, its a nice win for the Goph's
I guess I was thinking that since Dretsch has had a shot at 140 matches at 174 and has really not evolved or improved and sinch Sitch is on the clock since he's already has his redshirt, you might want to throw him out there a couple of times. You give Dretsch a little psychological edge by upsetting him and you give Sitch some mat experience before letting him out on the Wolves next year.

We have had this discussion before Jensens and you know I pull for my boy Dretsch but its time to do some coaching here and see if you can't get Dretsch to another level before he leaves. If not now, when? Before we hit the Big Tens, I would give Sitch some matches when we go out to California.

    Just a thought.

I know we've had this discussion before, and I've always been more than willing to agree with you if sometime you eventually put out a rational argument.

Getting Sitch matches is fine, but to insinuate that he should be the full time starter (not positive if this is what you're doing, and I apologize if it isn't) is ridiculous. Dretsch frustrates me too, but the fact of the matter is warts and all, he's the guy thats going to get the Gophers the most wins at 174 pounds.

its about the present, Dretsch, and the future, Sitch and doing a little bit of coaching...you know what you get out of Dretsch given the current situation...lets see what happens when you let Sitch in for a couple of scratch matches...how will Dretsch react.

I am not saying at all that Sitch gets this spot as I want my team to have the best chance of winning every dual and tournament as we can. Right now thats with Dretsch.

Alright, time for my report from the match. Just got home and am surprised how I am not too dissappointed....considering I probably would not have gone had I known beforehand Donahoe and Oliver were out.
    197) I won't rehash my reference to Bronson resembling a newborn calf, but I want to ask...have you ever seen someone more prone to move around on their heels?? Also, he will NEVER shoot a legitimate shot....NEVER!
    285) Berhow brought it to May and Gopherphan (or whoever it was that mentioned it) brought up an excellent point. He will get more mat presence and should finish on those takedowns. Still curious as to what Nord is capable of.
    125) Don't want to revisit this topic (ground my teeth in rage when I realized that match wasn't happening)
    133) Made the 2 1/2 hour trip worth it! Jordan was lightning on that takedown and the crowd was completely lost as to what happened to both competitors on the break. DID JORDAN BITE MACK? There was an odd break that made it seem like that was the case. Also, Jordan was so gassed that he was continuously heading over to get blood cleaned off even though no one was bleeding....that said, I noticed that the Huskers don't have their lungs quite yet...maybe it's early. The site of the "Mack Flex" pose to the crowd after the win was AWESOME! It brought me right back to the Illinois dual his freshman year after sticking Jayne. His reactions are classic.....his bottom wrestling is atrocious!
    141) Manny dominant as expected
    149) Borroughs does the most active job of stalling I have ever seen. I hope the video did justice to Dustin having to chase and tie up while Borroughs was alot of flash with little substance. Of course, what was he suppossed to do against the Mongoos....nice gator roll by way.
    165) Glasser looks equal parts really good and really raw. He is going to be really good...I am a little nervous as to how tall, angular 165 lbers will affect him.
    174) Dretsch's match tonight was a microcosm of his career. The moves he was doing (and not finishing!!) were exciting signs of potential his freshman and sophomore year....annoying his junior year....and downright frustrating his senior year. I'm with Gopherphan in terms of Stitch, give him a shot.
    184) Kish was dominant in neutral and painful on bottom. Nothing really to add other than we've got work to do on bottom!

One final note, how nice is it to be a Division I college wrestler?? Phil Meinart (a nondescript, 4th or 5th string 165 lb JR from Princeton, MN) rolls into the stands with a brunette that was a strong 9!!

Maybe it has been shared already but the ending of Reiters match is available for free viewing on MN's website.

If thats true, then that is the match...Nebraska isn't going to be able to recover from a potential nine point swing at that weight.
Donahoe has a staph infection in his elbow... so he should be back as soon as it goes away (better than tearing a ligament or something, but still frustrating that he couldn't wrestle tonight).

Apparently Oliver twisted his knee in Vegas but should be back soon as well.

I hope we get to see these teams dual again at National duals with full line-ups!

    Sounds like MRSA strikes again.
