Thread: Who Should Be #1 Team In College Wrestling????

Why would Minnesota drop to #3? They were #1, and lost to the #2 team. They should just trade places. Oklahoma State hasn't beaten either of the top 2 teams, why should they move ahead of one of them?

I'd put the gophers in 2nd for now until some other big matchups take place, the cowboys beating OU doesnt really mean much

I agree with you that a Bedlam win means nothing...I certainly wouldn't put the Gophers farther down than third, but I think that when dealing with the undisputed top three teams, and base the rankings on performance in a loss, I think they should go to Third.

As much of a homer as I am, and I'm a big one...they lost the two swing matches that they needed to win and really should have, 133 and 157. Those two losses right there make me want to put them in third position.

Thats my skewed rationale at least

The above would have been better addressed to OG Goldy. I really have a sore spot in my craw regarding the loss at 157. Also in regards to the fact that we didn't get bonus points at 149.

I think that the fire was a lacking quite a bit yesterday. Just because 1 loses to 2, doesn't mean that they can't fall farther.

Well obviously they COULD fall further, and they might. However I was questioning whether or not they SHOULD fall farther. From what I saw, the gophers were 1 move away at 2 or 3 different weights from beating ISU. Based on the fact that ISU came into that meet ranked higher than OSU, I don't think that OSU deserves to be bumped up above Minnesota.

I agree with you....however, I think that strength of line up, as it stands after yesterday puts them in third. Not any lower....It isn't a matter of A vs. B vs. C. It simply is a matter of what I personally think the strength of line ups are.

Right now, THe big holes for MN are at 197 and heavy weight. And without Bonus points at 157 and 149 at the very least....we dont match up well with OSU.

I think we will beat the cowboys, but I honestly don't think we would beat ISU again in another dual meet. In a tournament format, it is a completely different question.

I thought most major wrestling polls were done on tourney strength, and not dual meet strength (intermat, AWN, Rev, etc.). So if that is true, I don't see OSU passing Minnesota. Although, who knows for sure, as it is hard to gage one team vs. another from year to year.

As far as bonus points, you don't think Dustin could get a major against Fuentes? Rowe almost got 4, and I would venture to guess Dustin would get 4 against Rowe.

    ISU #1
    Gophers #2
    OSU #3....my opinion

Touche, I know at least two of those polls are done on tournament strength. We can certainly agree that they shouldn't fall below #2 in that regard. The only thing that makes me nervous is there leve of intensity. and that could come as a big problem come march should that not get picked up. Which I think it will.

As for Dustin majoring Fuentes, He most certainly should. But in that same breath there is absolutley no reason that he should not have gotten a major against Mueller. He should also major Rowe, but I go back to my above point. We needed Major points there and we didn't get them.

Now, I'm a big old fat guy now, and I'm well aware of the difficulty getting the extra points/takedowns in D1 wrestling. But as it stands from a monday evening quarterbacks perspective, DS not majoring fuentes isn't exactly out of the question.
