Default MN at 197 & HWT

Looks like a starter may have emerged at MN at 197 as Bronson went 2-0 today to include beating an NCAA qualifier and Malamura got stuck.

Going to be interesting to see what happens at HWT as Nord got pinned twice (once to #17 Hoskins) and Berhow pinned his guy. I think Nord had been the frontrunner but kinda makes you wonder if JRob will be rethinking that after today. I

ncidentally the Gophers only lost four matches today (the other a fillin at 133). The disturbing thing was the two pins against our heavy and I must admit Malamura losing not a surprise but getting stuck was.

Any reason why Mack Reiter didn't wrestle in that second dual at 133 against Blayze Bahe? (Jake Mellmer went instead, and lost 4-2)

I think Berhow definitely has the nod right now. Berhow has outperformed him at Kaufman-Brands and looks to be a little better at staying off of his back this early in the season. That is going to be pretty key in the ISU and at Natty Duals.

As far as Bronson is concerned, he has A LOT of mat time over the last four plus seasons but his high end potential is limited. I think you have to stay with Eidensheink. He had 165 wins in highschool and 97 pins so he just has to get in there and mix it up.

After being there today in Rochester, I really do think that Berhow has to get the nod. I really would be curious to know what the difference is between Nord and Berhow in the room.

It might have been just an off day for Nord, but he did get stuck by a relativley untalented heavy weight from NIU. Said heavyweight, by the way, got beat by the 197 pounder that Bronson handled in his match with ND State. Maybe it was an off day, but Nord showed very, very little.

Bronson on the other hand deffinitley looked a lot better than I have seen him in the four years I've been watching, but I think goferphan is right, his potential is vastly limited. I was glad to see him do so well, especially after Malamura went out and also got pinned, almost completely at random. I, personally, have never seen him win.

If anyone has any inside info on the Nord/Berhow practice room competition, I'd really like to know what thats like, it must have been difficult to watch those matches from the bench. I would have liked to see berhow against the heavy from N. Colorado and it would have certainly been fun to watch him put the wood to brenner. but I haven't seen him against true heavy weight competition.

Didn't Nord also get stuck at K-B? Berhow definitely has to have the edge. Anyone know why Eidenschink didn't wrestle today> I think the key for MN is to limit the damage at 197/HWT and they should be fine. If they give up 12 in a match at these weights that could be a problem.

I don't think they'll give up 12 at these weights, every time. These weights WILL be toss ups at best till things sort themselves out at HWT. But I don't see Bronson or Eidenschenk, or Kuhlman, worst case, getting pinned here every time. Malamura, bless his heart, tends to do that, but so did Lloyd at 141. Both were Juco champs.

Nord may very well have just have had a really off day, I dont know. It looked kind of like that. I really don't want to write either of them off or on until further notice, we have been VERY spoiled with Cole around.

from what I hear eideshank is still pretty banged up around his knee, I dont know a ton of details but he might be out for a while especially with so many other guys competing for the spot

Is it possible he might qualify for a medical redshirt year, or is he going to be completely out, ala reiter, because he pulled out of redshirt last year then got hurt?

On a similar topic, how is it that Glasser is considered a redshirt freshman? I thought he got pulled out of redshirt last year then went down with an injury. I might be grossly mistaken about this though.

I don't think they ever pulled him, Trusty is probably the guy to confirm this.
