I took it as someone trying to stir the pot. I always wondered why posters from rivals make a living doing nothing more than trolling. If that wasn't your intention I apologize. You aren't a tool box. Some that post at the Rivals site are on both sides.

Give him one match each against these guys and in the second go round he will start putting some losses on these guys...I think he's REALLY good for this weight class this year as the other Top Five guys are just resigned to go three periods and see if they can be in there at the end with DS
That's a damn good post by Gopherphan, in spite of the fact that he is not a Metcalf fan. Good analysis, in my opinion.

But then, I picked Metcalf, Perry, and Varner to go undefeated this year, so what do I know?

Darrion Caldwell is a three time NJ state champ who has incredibly long arms, very deceptive strenght and comes at you from various angles. He was sucked out at 141 last year. This year at 149 he will take no prisoners and will wreck many of the top guns at 149. He started with Jake Patacsil of Purdue and finished him in :18 now he decks the Mighty Metcalf in 1:40. He is scary good and very exciting to watch. Long live "Darrion the Destroyer"! LOL

PS This was not a fluke in case some of you had that concept in mind. This is what this kid does for a living! LOL

First off, let me say I definitely would not have posted it if I didn't think LkwdSteve was a reliable guy. On the other hand I was DEFINITELY looking for a reaction from the ol' Iowa faithful. I just wanted to see what happened when I posted some factual info on there that most of them would not have like to have seen. I'm not even mad about the toolbox comment, it's been such a long time since I've even heard that term in person much less on a message board, it made me kind of nostalgic. Let's just all wish MM a happy 21st and realize I won't remember this post in the morning.
You do the math..... I'll do the alfredo!! HAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!

Saturday was a long day and last night was restless. As Andy pointed out, the Iowa team results were predictable, going something like 34-6, but ended with two bizarre matches.

The big story is not Metcalf’s stinging loss to an exciting but flash wrestler Caldwell (the guy who almost buried Ryan Lang N in the second round of last year’s NCAA) but the unpredictable wrestling of Perry. He is still on a learning curve that solid wrestling requires staying patient and focused and not reckless. He’s going to have a long difficult season if he doesn’t start wrestling to repeat as a champ. Last season is in the books and it won’t win any matches for him. The finals of the K-B and yesterday will hopefully put some maturity in his training and mat performances.

Falck, Borschel, Slaton, Keddy and Fields all had decent days, but the competition wasn’t all too challenging. They looked good and put up good match scores. There’s a long ways to go to make the AA round so their grind is just beginning. LeClere needs to win matches against the ranked guys---as this weight will continue to be a coaching challenge.

Metcalf loss while somewhat shocking will get some attention but it was a bad thing to the rest of the field at 49. This was more a Pearl Harbor event and Metcalf will be that more focused, awake and pissed off (if you will excuse the expression).

Agreed. In the long run this is a good thing for Metcalf.

That's what the girls thought (back in the day).

As a Gopher fan, I giggled like a toddler on Xmas when I saw the Perry and Metcalf results last night online....of course, I was returning from a wedding dance so the drinks may have had an affect as well.

I am currently in Iowa and I haven't seen Metcalf or Perry on the shoulders trying to "thumb" their way outta Iowa. It is early and these results are interesting, but not something that indicates they won't come back at the end of the year. However, it is humorous hearing the same Hawk fan's I personally spoke on the phone to early in the week ripping the Goph's at All Stars talk now about how early season matches are meaningless. Ironic!
