    Default PSU-Illinois Picks

There are some interesting match-ups, headed by Delgado-Megaludis:

    125 #2 Megaludis (19-2) vs #4 Delgado (14-1)
    133 #15 Gulibon (11-8) vs #11 Richards (12-2)
141 #2 Retherford (20-0) vs #8 Rodriguez (7-2)--if Rodriguez wrestles; has been out since Midlands
    157 #4 D Alton (12-0) vs #12 Brunson (16-4)
197 #7 McIntosh (19-2) vs #4 Gonzalez (7-0)--if Gonzalez wrestles; has been out since Midlands

149 should also be interesting, Tom. If Illinois fields their best team this could be the closest meet PSU wrestles all year. When I look at this meet on paper it reminds me how important match-ups are in dual meets. PSU is a way better team than Illinois but Illinois actually matches-up reasonably well with them in a dual.

Give me Nico tomorrow! He's looked good, Jesse has not been amazing of late.
Jimmy Over Zain. Watch their freestyle match and I bet you'll agree.

You're picking a Penn State sweep??? I like the way you think! I don't foresee that happening, but would be happy to be wrong in this instance.

Probably the first time in history two Zain's have wrestled in the same dual meet.

It's been kind of surprising to me that Gulibon has taken so many lumps. I'm guessing he's more a natural 25 and he's not quite strong enough for 33? Seems to have tank issues as well, maybe there is some sort of tank-virus that he caught from AA.

One other interesting item: DT vs Morse. The last time they met Morse had 3 TD's against Taylor!

Flop--Cael addressed Gulibon's situation a bit after the Scuffle (a bit more revealing than Cael ususally is!). He said that Gulibon has had 2 issues: 1) not managing his weight well--it didn't sound so much that he was losing too much weight as that he just wasn't managing it well--I think that's better now; 2) confidence issues. Gulibon has said this himself. He has normally been very aggressive on his feet. But, he lost confidence with a number of close losses early and he got out of his game, so to speak. It's not clear yet, against a good wrestler, whether he's overcome some of those confidence issues. Also, he has to improve in the down position against tough riders.

Wrestlers who were dominant in high school often do have problems from the down position in college, they're just not used to being ridden like a show pony.

That must mean that I would have been awesome in the down position in college.
