A friend of mine in Waterloo -- who has always generously provided me with tapes of IPTV College Wrestling events -- has told me that this year, there will be ONLY TWO duals on Public TV in Iowa -- I believe he said they'd be showing Iowa vs Iowa State, and Iowa State vs UNI.

If this is, indeed, true (and I'll try to verify that it is), this is a shame. I've long contended that IPTV wrestling coverage has contributed to the unusual fan support for the Hawkeyes. The casual fan would get hooked by watching and would eventually have to show up at Carver to see what this was all about. I can still hear the late Doug Brown yelling into the mic, "(Lou) Banach's in trouble. Osenbaugh has Banach in trouble!" _ and then the Iowa State fans went wild.

    gg121and2,

Doug Brown -- what a class act! I miss him. From everything I observed, he seemed to fit the definition of Renaissance man, seemingly at ease as a college wrestling commentator and in arts/cultural programs, too.

That makes sense, just as the Cubs have fans everywhere because of WGN.

I exchanged emails with the IPTV wrestling producer today and he told me that budget challenges are forcing them to cut back to four (4) meets this year. Other than Iowa/Iowa State they have not yet definitely decided which meets will be the other 3.

Here's the next-to-last paragraph he sent,

"On a viewer side of things, there are more opportunities to view college wrestling then I can ever remember. ESPN has been doing a terrific job with the Nationals with expanded coverage of the early and quarter final rounds. CSTV will cover the Team Duals in Cedar Falls, and the Big Ten network is slated to do several meets including the Oklahoma State vs Iowa meet this season. This is just the over the air broadcasters, the web site wrestling telecasts have been expanding at all the major schools. It's great to see all these organizations coming out to bring wrestling to the public and fans."

I'm still a huge fan of IPTV wrestling coverage and will be blogging on their circumstances in the near future.

FSN does a good job of having a lot of wrestling duels.
