I live in one of the few neighborhoods in CR not served by IMON - besides I have a bundled Mediacom package that saves me a bunch on all of the other services I get from them.

Oh yeah - then there's the fact that a lot of my retirement went down the drain with McLeod.

I also used to get some on the fox college sports networks, but now I'm sure that's over too. At least on those I'll still get some big12 wrestling on fcs.

I'm curious about how this will affect our local cable access guy Bob Dieli? I can usually catch tOSU home meets the following week or two on his Wednesday night Mat Side show.
The Big 12 and EIWA stuff that we catch on Fox should not be affected in any way. I used to occasionally catch Northwestern or Penn St., but those days are likely over.

And as I said before - the Big Ten is headquartered in a suburb of Chicago right near O'Hare, and we don't get the Big Ten network. Fantastic.

People should really consider Direct TV.. I made the switch last year and it has been great. Also ESPNU carries some wrestling and occasionally one of the fox sports does as well. So with the Big Ten Network, CSTV, ESPN, and FOX sports our only real concern is college wrestling will become too popular like UFC. Ok, maybe not.

DirecTV won't help you get more Big 10 if the Big Ten Network has exclusive rights. I have DirecTV, with all of the Fox channels, CSTV, the Big Ten Network, etc... What is that going to get me, providing that only 20 hours of Big Ten wrestling will be available?

That's great for people who live in houses, or apartment building that allow dishes, but for most city apartment dwellers, our only option is cable.

This gives me the impression that CSTV will be limited in its coverage. In the past, I've watched quite a few Big Ten duals on CSTV, as well as the conference tourney. Does anybody know if this means that CSTV will no longer be covering Big 10 matches?
Stardust,

A friend of mine in Waterloo -- who has always generously provided me with tapes of IPTV College Wrestling events -- has told me that this year, there will be ONLY TWO duals on Public TV in Iowa -- I believe he said they'd be showing Iowa vs Iowa State, and Iowa State vs UNI.

(Iowans on this forum, please correct me if I'm wrong.)

In the past, IPTV would show 8-10 college events a year, including the National Duals when held in Iowa or Nebraska, the Iowa Intercollegiate Conference Championships, and the Iowa HS state finals. The prep championships are now on commercial TV...

I was always a fan of IPTV's coverage. A shame it seems to be shrinking.

Meanwhile, just about no one -- outside satellite TV subscribers and folks living in small towns with small-town cable systems -- will get to see the 22 hours of Big Ten mat action... which is also a shame.

Mark

PS Meanwhile, here in Cincinnati, we're inundated with these stupid Big Ten Network commercials showing the Ohio State marching band doing "script Ohio." I'm an advertising writer, and could understand if the commercials were like the old "I want my MTV!" campaign to get cable customers to beg their cable providers to show the music video channel back in its infancy... but no such plea. It seems like a Big waste of money to advertise something most of us can't have.

That stinks! For some reason, I've always been able to watch IPTV meets through Indiana public TV (I know, it's weird) and their coverage is always the best. The announcers know what they're talking about, the production has substance, not all flash, and they know when it's appropriate to break away from a match.

If this is, indeed, true (and I'll try to verify that it is), this is a shame. I've long contended that IPTV wrestling coverage has contributed to the unusual fan support for the Hawkeyes. The casual fan would get hooked by watching and would eventually have to show up at Carver to see what this was all about. I can still hear the late Doug Brown yelling into the mic, "(Lou) Banach's in trouble. Osenbaugh has Banach in trouble!" _ and then the Iowa State fans went wild.

gg121and2,

Doug Brown -- what a class act! I miss him. From everything I observed, he seemed to fit the definition of Renaissance man, seemingly at ease as a college wrestling commentator and in arts/cultural programs, too.
