Iowa's class included two-time Illinois state champion Jordan Blanton until he backed out of his commitment last week when the Hawkeyes asked him to reallocate scholarship funds so they could have the finances to redshirt Alex Tsirtsis this year and bring him back for his senior season in 2008-09.

NCAA rules prohibit Brands and Iowa officials from commenting on prospective recruits until they have signed a letter of intent.

"(Brands) really didn't go against his word, and I don't want people to think less of him as a person or a coach because it was my decision," Blanton said. "They didn't force me away. It was just something as a team that they had to do and it made me look at a couple options, and that's the way it went. But he didn't completely renege on his offer or anything like that. He didn't do anything bad, and I don't want him to have the reputation that he does that kind of thing."
Blanton, a projected 174-pounder in college, said he is considering Illinois and other schools that have recently come back into the picture for his services.

whats your point? if you are defending Brands thats fine but you are still out a great recruit...i would agree that at this point Blanton appears as if he was looking for a way out so at least it happened sooner rather than later.

Not defending anything. It just looks like that Jordan may have changed his mind. I'm sure the whole Tsirtsis redshirt caught everyone a little bit off guard. I wish Jordan well seems to be a class kid.

Why is T-shirt taking a Redshirt? I thought he was looking to get back on track.

I wish I knew it doesn't seem to make any sense to me. Unless he is trying to get his fith year of college paid for.

that doesn't make any damn sense, he is either injured, in fear of losing his spot at 141 or brands is trying to build his contender for next year and just stacking his team for a 2008-2009 run...

thats what i think he's doing...if so, thats fine...thats one strategy but if thats the case then losing blanton wouldn't have been worth that decision in my opinion...

most of these kids are on less than a half scholarship. He beats Leclere in the wrestle off and he is competing in freestyle. None of it makes sense.
