Heinrich Barnes competed in Oregon State's wrestle-offs but ONLY in an exhibition match (signifying that he may very well be redshirted this season). Secondly, he competed in that exhibition match at 149 lbs.

When I last talked to the OSU staff, they weren't certain on what they wanted to do with Barnes yet. I do know, they are very impressed with him so far.

Re: Heinrich Barnes from Oregon State
If this guy placed top 8 at Junior Worlds twice there is no reason why he can't place top 8 at NCAAs IMO.

Re: Heinrich Barnes from Oregon State
I think OSU thinks he should finish #1 rather than just top 8.

Do you know if Barnes will be competing this weekend at the Best of the West tournament? If so perhaps we will see how he does against Adam Hall of Boise State.

Yeah, he pretty much did walk thru that field at the Best of the West tournament. I was there to watch that tournament. I saw Barnes toss around Boise State's Eli Hutchison like a rag doll. He was pretty impressive.
Levi Jones gave Barnes a pretty good go of it tho in the finals and Boise State's projected starter at 141 lbs was not there to compete (Cam Jones). It would have been nice to see how CAM Jones stacked up to Barnes.
I disagree with the choice of Barnes as the tournament's OW tho. Tyler Sherfey was much more impressive - Sherfey won 17-0 in the finals at 157 lbs and if you compare Sherfey's results to Barnes' results Sherfey was much more impressive. Barnes was good - no doubt about it - but Sherfey was better - he made Dan Brascetta look like someone who was just getting started in the sport of wrestling.
The heavyweight for Southern Oregon was also pretty impressive. He beat both Travis Gardner of Oregon State and Nick Smith of Boise State. The kid is a real physical specimen. He must weigh in at around 280 lbs with very little body fat - all muscle. Big 'african-american' kid (to be politically correct here).

Another wrestler who should have received votes for OW is Kyle Bressler (184-OSU). He blew through his bracket as easily as Sherfey.
