Awesome idea let the main event be the last championship wrestled. Nice to see some forethought here by the NCAA and ESPN.
The NCAA selection committee just screwed the Gophers on seeding.

Not that I think it will but I'll laugh when either Dake or Taylor get upset along the way.

I think for the ncaa to acknowledge this could put officials in a weird spot. Controversial calls for dake and taylor leading up to the final match will look really really bad.
Neither should be tested, but still

I am a bit torn on it. On one hand it makes for great drama--putting the most anticipated match-up last. But on the other hand, it puts some subjectivity into the whole process--something that could backfire at times. Still, can you imagine the heightened drama if Taylor needs to win for PSU to win the team title? Wow!

I see it as a win, win, win....
1. Obviously, the best case scenario would be Dake vs Taylor...Dake wrestling for his 4 title and Taylor wrestling for a team title
2. If Taylor happens to get knocked off (highly unlikely), we still get to watch Dake wrestle for his historic 4th title (and he'll definitely win without Taylor)
3. If Dake happens to get knocked off (not gonna happen...sorry Caldwell), we may get to watch Taylor wrestle for a team title (and the team race could come down to his bonus points)

I agree Tom, I have mixed emotions. Part of me would love to see THE marquee matchup of the tournament (if it happens) as the final match especially if it effects the team race but I also really like starting at 125 and working to HWT. I've always been a fan of tradition.

Anyone remember the Russian nationals last year when they had a huge poster of A. Saitiev and Tsargush up? In the semis, Geduev scored several obvious points that were not counted- probably the worst screwjob I've ever seen. There was a big riot in the place.
Not saying the NCAA's are like Russia, but VA has a point- this could put pressure on the referees (or rather, incease the existing pressure. Would YOU want to be the guy to deny someone their fourth title?)
