I think JD might have something for Tervel if they ever met up, but other than that I agree, he'd school everyone else. He wrecked Fox last year at Midlands.

i agree with jensens that J.D. could still possibly end up the best heavyweight but I won't know until I see the 230 lb J.D. go up against some of the bigger heavies this year....J.D. is going to be quick and will be great on his feet...if he can prove able to get out from bottom, he is going to be able to give anyone a match all year...i think before the year is over, he is going to get up to the 235-240 range and be a force at Nationals...

Tervel is legit.

Grips asked me about comparisons to other heavies. Kerry McCoy might be the most active and agile heavyweight to try to compare styles. Dlagnev is an offensive fireplug. Might be my favorite wrestler of them all this season.

Got a good Getting to Know on him coming up soon. Nice kid, too.

Things did not turn out so bad for the Cowboys that year. They peaked at Nationals, something Minnesota has not done recently.

I was thinking the same thing. Not that I have ever visited one, but you don't hear about porn sites crashing.

Thats kind of what I was hoping for. They have dropped off dramatically in the past few years at nationals. Last year they had the horses to pull them through and while it could be argued they're stronger on paper this year, the way things are shaping up early this season, parity is running amok.

Personally, I'm hoping this was a nice wake up call and the fun begins this Saturday down in Rochester.

PS, as much as I like Reiter, Lou Ruggirello really impressed me. he was solid on his feet and an absolute monster on top.

As sluggish as the Gophers looked last night....it is a long season. Last year around this time, the boards were clamoring with Hofstra buzz after they beat the Gophers and we see how things came out in March.

That being said, I am even more excited about the dual with ISU in a couple weeks for no other reason than to see the continuation of Varner / Kish. Other thoughts from last night:
1) I understand that wrestling is a niche sport, but couldn't LSV have come up with someone more competant than the main announcer they had last night. The coaches and Shane Webster did fine...but for the main guy to not know how to say Cael's name, Scott Coleman instead of Coleman Scott (he's been around long enough), and call Zalesky (who I like a lot, mind you) a coaching legend. Maybe I am being too harsh.
2) Henning....seemed to have plenty of time to reposition, that must have been a tight stack up.
3) King Lou is still riding Reiter as I type this this morning.
4) As a Gopher fan who spent two summer studying in Madison, WI; I really got a kick out of watch Barry Davis jump up and start coaching Ness along side J! That is what's great about this sport.
5) Are the Gopher's officially a Nike team? I had heard rumblings last spring...thoughts??
6) Gavin looked gassed but very solid overall and he earned my admiration last year at NCAA's with how he went straight at Askren...can't help but pull for that guy.

I understand your pain, Moza Fay was spotted parking Perry in a bicycle rack on the UNI campus just this morning.

As you pointed out it's a long season and we're just starting. Everyone will make adjustments but some will adjust more than others. I am really look forward to the Minnesota-ISU meet. I think Minnesota is more vulnerable to being beaten than they were last year and I think ISU has a good chance to knock them off. But admittedly that statement contains a fair amount of optimism.

I agree....missing "the closer"(Konrad) that was getting you six, 90% of the time will come into play more than once this year.

March will be very interesting with at least 3 teams in the title hunt.
