Thread: Robbery!

Taylor was more conservative than Rush Limbaugh the entire match because he knows what happens when things open up against Dake -- see their Olympic trials match for the results. I just think Dake's kitbag is fuller than Taylor's when it comes to needing to put points on the board in a tough match. Hopefully we'll get another chance to see them complete against each other.

It just isn't going to happen, Dake is just too damn good, especially defensively and in scrambles. So, every match between these two is going to be like this and in these type of matches Dake wins almost every time because that is what he does.

Dake's reversal was a good call I thought. Established standing control behind Taylor as Zapp described and therick agreed to. By definition, it is a reversal. Paused it several times during the 2 seconds or so that the move takes place in and it is pretty clear to me that Taylor loses and Dake gains control. Like Thaxton pointed out earlier, Taylor then grambied out for a reason. And, after the gramby is through there is no indication that control has been lost by Dake. On the flipside, Taylor's reversal is a fine and obvious call.

End of match, Taylor escaped. Can't see if Dake's hands are locked at the end but clearly Taylor broke them with his gramby just moments before. Should have given Taylor the '1' and sent it to be decided in o.t. properly. Obviously Dake better get his cardio going before the end of the year. I think he is stronger but he was cooked through at the end of the match and Taylor was going to win in o.t. That said, Taylor appears to need some "explosion" type strength to go against this guy (only). He is/was a late bloomer and after one more year of maturing and developing his man strength he wins this match up every time.

If it is true, why the hell are they allowing a Cornell guy to officiate this???

I thought this match was much more entertaining than their first. I don't think Taylor is holding back as much as he just can't break through Dake's defense. The reversal... wasn't clear that it was but it wasn't clear that it wasn't either, could've gone either way but you have to live with the call. One thing I disagree is I think OT favors Dake. Taylor's more methodical on bottom and can require more time to get out, while Dake can clamp down on anyone for 30 seconds.

Watched the match and I thought that Dake did have 2 on that reversal. The refs obviously thought so too, but it was close thats for sure. Like others have pointed out, couldnt see Dakes hands on Taylors escape, but if they awarded 1 to Taylor I wouldnt have disagreed, but again, they saw something different than we did on the recording.

I think that if/when they meet again in the National Finals and the match goes like it has the last 2 times Dake pulls it out once again. He is just too tough to score on, and lives for close matches like that and doesnt lose them very often at all. If it opens up a bit though I like Taylors chances a bit more, but like the Olympic Trials if it opens up it could be dangerous for Taylor.

One thing for sure though, for this match being deemed the rivalry of the century the hype has not lived up. Wrestling needs a match up like this, but the match needs to be more exciting to get more fans involved.

I agree it was a better match than the first but it still did not satisfy. Too many questions, and I think everyone wants a definitive win from one of these guys. While I generally agree about the o.t., I think that this time in the OT Taylor would have gotten the TD in the first minute before rideouts ever happened as Dake was exhausted. This is how Dake lost to LeValley a couple years back, he was sucked out at the end of regulation and got taken down in o.t.

It's been hyped up quite a bit, and this match was better than the last one. These guys will probably never have matches as entertaining as Pendleton vs Askren, those guys opened it up every time. In the end, it's going to be a four-timer against a two-timer, which doesn't happen that often.

These guys are more even than Pendleton and Askren, though I think Dake is wrestling to his ability and not so much Taylor. Like in his match with Bubba, I'm starting to think that if Taylor knows someone well he can't open it up on them.

I keep on seeing PSU fans want stalling on Dake but for that to happen he has to actually shoot instead of trying half hearted ankle picks from 5 feet away. I'm not a fan of the reversal call but I honestly think Dake looked like the better wrestler. He got sloppy on top and Taylor made him pay but Dake was very close to winning a couple of scrambles and from what I saw had more opportunities to score than Taylor. I could see Dake scoring from neutral against Taylor at NCAAs, which would be a kill shot for the way these two guys are wrestling each other.

This... no way is that a stlemate position, should be called stalling the first time it happens

Just watched the interview with Dake after the match on flo right now. He said that he was ready for a shootout as well and was prepared. Said he was also ready for a big move if he was down big. I like Dake quite a bit and am a huge fan, but for that to happen (Shootout/downbig) that means that Taylor has to open it up as well. Dake took the first and pretty much only legitimate shot of the whole match and it was a stalemate. The fans calling for Dake to get stalling called on them need to realize that Taylor isnt opening up as well. I wish that they both would, and if Taylor would take legitimate shots I think he gets the stalling, but because they are both so good at defense/counter wrestling I fear we wont see a match that is wide open between these two.
