Just speculating, but maybe Scott is at 174 in part because that's an open weight. I mean, he probably doesn't stand a chance against Cyler (157) or Reader (165), and maybe has long outgrown 149. But he does have talent.

    Reminds me of Matt Pell

Cyler Sanderson dec Aaron Scott 3-2 in there wrestle off. I wouldn't quite call that "Not standing a chance".

I'd love to see Scott get to make varsity this year and qualify for nationals. Just one of those work hard and dreams come true stories you can't resist.

It reminds me of Mitch Kuhlman...going from 165 to 197...took a bullet for the team because Bronson for the Gophers was SO bad.

Was the decision to go to Iowa State the best for Carr Jr? Sanderson and Mueller are sophomores, Reader and Artist are freshmen. One upside is the quality of practice partners.

JohnnyT: I stand admonished. I really do think Aron S. is a fine wrestler.

I heard from a guy who heard from a guy that Kist lost to Clark, so Clark is the starter.

I wasn't trying to imply that you thought that, it's just that I've known Aaron a very long time and realize the amount of physical work he has put into become a varsity starter for the Iowa State Cyclones.

When Scott got out of high school, he "only" was a 2 time state qualifier and placed 6th once as a senior. To many he was DIII or NAIA material but not DI material. Scott didn't care what anyone else thought, he wanted to wrestle DI. The amount of progress he has made up in Ames just astonishes me and I hear from his dad and his former wrestling teammates that if he were to transfer this year and go DIII or NAIA he might even make a threat as a National Champion. Yet, he remains up at Iowa State because his goals are DI. That in my eyes is very admirable and I only hope the very best for him.
If he were to find a way into the line up this year and qualify for Nationals or even just win a few major varsity matches that would be awesome.

He has proven himself before. He lost a very close match to Patrick Williams, 2 Time NCAA qualifier of Arizona State and Round of 12 as well as losing in overtime to Darren McKnight, also a 2 time NCAA qualifier and Midlands place winner of Michigan State.

If Scott is to beat Sanderson or Mueller at an open tournament this year, it wouldn't surprise ole JT#1 in the least bit.

Starting lineup for tonight's dual with N. Illinois includes Hanisch at 125, Artist at 174, and Bertolino at 197, with the rest of the slots as expected.
