As I said before, since UNI has been called, "an up and coming program that is doing great things," and ISU is, "a dismal program getting worse and worse."

Seems to me that the latter won that dual last year.

I'll also repeat: three years, folks. Three years, with one of those years a third place finish. SEND HIM DOWN THE ROAD NOW! THIS IS AN EMERGENCY IN AMES!!

Without going back and looking, were ALL of Sanderson's years at ISU stellar?

Ban, what is your deal with failing coaches? First Penrith, now KJ.

Yes. Your perception(seemingly) is that all programs should be viewed in a vacuum.

    Nobody else thinks that way.

ISU's tradition and resources set it apart from the majority of the programs in the country. They have more advantages than most schools, yet he is unable to utilize them.

It's interesting that the one year that you view as good, was the year he didn't have any of his guys in.

He has recruited poorly, and developed talent poorly. Not a matter of perception.

I only have one "deal:" collective ignorance, which rears its ugly head in sports more than any other place that can be seen. I'm not going to rehash my argument of Penrith and his job, as I've gone over that a million times before and its irrelevant now. However, I do get my kicks out of pointing out that when Penrith was saying that UNI needed an upgraded facility that it lead to a firestorm of supposed "UNI fans" screaming, "excuses!" Yet, when Schwab suggested it (and subsequently go it), he is a "genius." Hmmm....

    For now:
    1. Coaches don't wrestle matches. No coach can win or lose a match, once that wrestler hits the mat. Doug Schwab even says that, and I've ALWAYS said it.

    2. Is Brands a "failing coach?" His record and performance seems to be going down each year, so is he "getting worse?"

    3. Is John Smith a "failing coach?" His record and performance seems to be going down each year, so is he "getting worse?"

    4. If Jackson is "failing" and Schwab is "doing great things," how did ISU beat UNI last year in their dual?

Oh, I KNOW that no one thinks that way.

I made that pernt to show that Jackson certainly didn't RUIN those wrestlers though, did he? He also didn't wrestle their matches for them either, did he?

We'll see. LOTS of season to still be rassled this year.

So why do we have coaches then?

Just because he didn't ruin great wrestlers doesn't make him a good coach or even decent. I'd like to think I could find a way to not screw up Jake Varner too. Doesn't mean I should get a contract extension.

By Ban's logic Gable was not the reason for Iowa's great success while he was there since he didn't wrestle a single match. Recruiting, teaching and motivating have nothing to do with the success of a wrestling team...I guess.

First question, I guess that they are needed for recruiting, motivating, organizing, etc, but once those wrestlers hit the mat, it's largely out of that coach's hands.

If we are going to say that it is all the result of the coaches, which people are essentially saying on here (note how nothing is being said about it being "down years," the "wrestlers aren't performing," but that it is ALL on the coach), then it IS fair for me to say that Jackson didn't ruin those AA's in his first year.

Now, if we want to say that it was due to the wrestlers and not so much Jackson's coaching, I will sing an entusiastic, "Hallelujah!" That's been my point ALL ALONG!

On a related note, take a look at pro sports and the numbers of coaches that go from "genius" to "the worst destroyer of talent I've ever seen!" What changed?
