Much like the missing minutes in the Watergate tapes, I'm guessing we'll never know...
I really am not sure what to think to be honest. It's a tough one for me to visualize.

Have you seen the Dake/Taylor FS match? It was a pretty one sided beating, so there's a good reason it's influencing peoples' predictions. For some reason the much-hyped PSU guys had a pretty rough Olympic Trials. Not that I'd expect them to win the tournament or anything, but they gave up a ton of points. Ed Ruth got lit up by Phil Keddy, who's usually a block-and-push-out type of guy who wins 1-0, 1-0.

I agree with you Quinn--I think that match heavily figures into the voting equation. I know that even though I'm picking DT, I can still see Dake twice throwing DT to his back. I know that freestyle is different from folkstyle and I think that difference will be in DT's favor this time, but. . .it was impressive. That saying, I'm still picking DT.

arm-spin--I hadn't yet read your post when I posted mine above but saying pretty much the same thing. In terms of the PSU performance at the OT's giving up a lot of points--I wonder how much of it is that some of those guys are used to dominating in college and have a more open style that they get punished for in freestyle against good opponents. I haven't seen most of their matches to know if the points were off of counters of their shots vs primary shots by their opponent. You follow a lot more freestyle than I do and probably have a better explanation for their giving up so many points at the OT's. I know that there are moves that score points in freestyle that don't in folkstyle, just considered "rolling through".

    What Tomwright said.

The only matches I've seen from the US trails is Howe/Burroughs (which was awesome) and Dake/Taylor, since the feed is blocked in Canada. From what I remember hearing, Taylor gave up a ton of points off of counters, and also seemed to get outmuscled quite a bit. The second (pinning) throw Dake hit was sweet counter off a single leg, while the first was an under-hook throw if I remember correctly.

No idea how Ruth's match went, maybe he got gutwrenched a lot?

If anyone has youtube video of the trials, please post... I don't have much time to search for it these days.
