He was good, but I'm not sure he takes the title. He always had Marion's number but didn't he lose to a redshirting Jimmy Kennedy at the midlands? And Marion wasn't really the second best guy that year, came in as a six seed and only had to beat one seeded wrestler to take second - the #10 guy at that.
Slaton would have been right up there no doubt but I couldn't put him over Dake or Humprey (who got pretty screwed with the #4 seed) that season even if he was full time.
