Dual meet format is much more exciting than a tournament scoring, which almost no wrestling fans understands anyways.
i think this could be a good change. Wining the individual title will still be the ultimate accomplishment. I do wonder if the National title is given in February it will mean less because there will still be more duals after the champ is crowned. Will their title be diminished if they lose subsequent duals or perform poorly at the NCAAs?

I believe that some states have switched to this format for their HS. Does anyone know how this has worked in those states?

Every non-wrestler that I have made an attempt to introduce to the sport just won't get into it and they never will, so I'm tired of the "wrestling doesn't have enough exposure" argument in response to the question of why it isn't mainstream. This change is good for wrestling fans and wrestlers.
I agree that the general population is not going to follow wrestling. My experiences is that that vast number of ex-wrestlers do not follow college wrestlers. This seems like a good target audience. If they knew a national championship dual was on ESPN would they be more likely to watch two teams battle in a dual format or watch the finals of the tournament where the tam race is almost never dramatic?

In Iowa we wrestle the duals the weekend before state starts. It's dumb because many schools sit out their qualifiers so they don't get hurt before the real tournament. In Iowa, duals will always be second fiddle to the traditional individual and team titles so they need to move it to after the tournament imo.

    In a nutshell, yes.

So really unless you believe the athletes and coaches wont wrestle/work as hard the only issue is YOUR own personal issue with semantics. Which, if you want to find a reason to dislike something, that will be your scape goat. Im of the opinion kids want to be national champions and all americans and they want to wrestle for a team title. Kids wrestle hard for the freaking reno TOC and Midlands, you dont think theyll go hard for the national tournament?
I seem to be on the exact same page as you on this vais. Since Nat'l duals will now mean something, you're going to see some pretty heavy wrestling. Every team is going to want that team title and you're going to see not only the studs but also the lesser guys (guys not in the hunt for an individual championship) play key roles and be heroes and upset the other team's stud to win the match. Happens all the time. At the same time, everybody is still going to want to win the team title at NCAAs because these guys and their coaches are the type that always compete, always. So I think you're still going to see the same level of intensity that we now have art NCAA's. Liking the idea more and more.

Between this dual tourney and NCAA's, some of these guys are going to be in for one hell of a grind and that may cause some injury+mental problems but the class guys will always show up in the end.

When I think of the national tournament heres what comes to mind. Let me know when I list something that will be altered under the new plan.

Best 33 wrestlers at 10 weights
    3 day tourney
Wrestlers competing from many different schools
Wrestlers competing for national chamionships and all americans.
Fans rooting hard for their athletes/team
Teams competing to win the most important individual tournament all year.
    ESPN coverage.

I agree, that I don't think for a second that any wrestler wouldn't try as hard to win at NCAA's whether it contributed to a team national title or not. BUT, I think wrestlers will wrestle more like freestyle in keeping it just close enough to win (a lot of times--certainly not everyone is the same). If the team title isn't that significant, many wrestlers will not push for bonus points (which opens matches up more). But the other factor is the suspense of who is going to win the team title. If it's not a real national championship, a lot of that is gone. At least that's what I think. Maybe fans will still follow it with as much suspense and anticipation, but I'm not so sure.

The one you didnt mention is the one that will be altered and it trumps all of those you listed.

The NCAA team title is determined.

But Herk, you'll still be able to say "If we had the old system and if some of our guys who lost had won then we'd be the champions."
"He beat nobodies..Thorn at 133 won't be great, R12 or worse imo...
    I just don't see it...David Thorn is not elite. I don't think he'll place"
