Not sure what to think about this. I don't like effing with the tournament. I think it might loose it's luster. We already have a system for determining a team champion. Why do we have to change it? I'm in favor of having a national dual tournament and I would like it to be recognized by the NCAA but not at the cost of the "real" tournament.

Hold on to your brains but I just agreed with herkey on everything he said. Print it. frame it.

I completely agree with what Herkey said. I suppose they could take both results and somehow add them together to crown a champ but to put it all on the duals is a bit extreme IMO.

Well, as usual you are all wrong. This move will revitalize wrestling and detract little from the individual championships. In fact there have always been wrestlers who put the teams goals below their own individual chances.

Why not crown a dual meet national champion and a tournament national champion. As we all know the best tournament team is not always the best dual meet team and vice versa.

It will be next to impossible to keep guys healthy for another peak. Peak at Nat duals, conf and NCAA's. Too much. There will be mangled teams imo by the end.

As Willie noted, this will almost certainly make for less aggressive wrestling at the individual NC's. With a team title on the line, wrestlers push for bonus points in a way that they won't be rewarded for now. It can't help but weaken the March tourney.

This would make it more complicated, but keep the interest team-wise for both--1) have a team dual champion; 2) a team champion for individual tourney; 3) the overall team champion combining the results of the two. The final one (#3) would be the true champion, but each tourney's results would figure into that placing. I know it would never fly--but I like it better than giving the title simply to the national duals winner. If the new proposal is approved, the traditional tournament will lose some significant luster.

Actually Tom its just the opposite. Most wrestlers value their individual achievement much more than the team trophy. They will not risk losing their match for the possibility of a team title.

I don't anticipate David Taylor winning by simple decisions just because PSU can not win the team title. I don't think McDonough will mail it in because Iowa can not win the team title. Go down the list of finalists and tell me which guys will not wrestle as dominantly as they possibly can.

And for all the guys whose teams were never in contention, they will appreciate having the spotlight on their performances.
