Default Destin McCauley staying at OTC ?

My friend DROOKE posted this on TOM . Does anyone form ISU have any insights ?
You know, I think I would rather be a man than a god . We don't need anyone to believe in us. We just keep going anyhow. It's what we do.

    Very interesting.

Worked out pretty well for the last high profile high school kid to go that route.

    And Harry Lester.

Modern wrestling is largely a young man's sport. The physical, emotional and family toll of international wrestling means a lot of athetes have a relatively short life span at their absolute peak- often in their early to mid 20's. Those who want to suceed internationally do well to follow this route, IMO.

I agree with that, but I think it depends on how this affects their college eligibility. I still haven't gotten a definite answer, so I have no clue. But, if a kid loses his eligibility because he chooses to spend 4 years at OTC to win an Olympic medal, that sucks, IMO. Free college is a good enough reason to stay in college and not go for the Olympics until afterwards. College is wildly too expensive already and if it's offered free, I would advise my kid to go wrestle college and wait on the Olympics.

Now, if you don't lose eligibility and can still get a scholarship after your Olympic run, then I say to go for the Olympics. As long as the option of free college will still be there, go get your gold medal and have the privilege of an entire world stopping to listen to our Nation's National Anthem because of your hard work. I can't really think of a better honor in sports.

Probably a dumb question, but how long can he do that before the NCAA starts taking away "wrestling time"? Or can he do it forever and try to enter college after an international career without any time penalty?

Not sure. Remember with Deitchler, he lost a year sorta, then had to pay some olympic money back. Then got the year back. I think until Destin makes a world/olympic team his clock shouldnt start. Thats a guess though.

I think Deitchler's issue involved his actually putting pen to paper for if not enrolling at Minnesota.

I don't think McCauley ever officially signed anywhere let alone enrolled anywhere. All he did was verbal to Wisconsin and then switched to Iowa State.
