I think "past achievements" are a Hodge Trophy criterion? That might be the tie breaker in Jake Herbert's favor.

The Hodge Trophy is considered to be the "Heisman Trophy for wrestling." The criteria is record, pins, dominance, credentials, competition, and sportsmanship & citizenship.

Caldwell's loss won't be ignored - but even if it were, sportsmanship is still a significant criteria. Excessive celebration before the end of a match isn't consistent with a high level of sportsmanship and that is absolutely taken into consideration.

The Hodge guys screwed their own criteria last year, even though I think Metcalf deserved it. Last year, Metcalf had a loss, but he was undoubtedly a more dominant wrestler then Gavin, based on bonus points, etc. But the Hodge guys went against their own precedent. This year, Caldwell undoubtedly had a dominant season, like Metcalf last year, including the one blemish, but unlike last year, Caldwell has two legitimately undefeated guys who were also very dominant in Herbert and Burroughs, both of whom belong ahead of Caldwell.

Remember, WIN considers the All-Star ... Caldwell's loss is still a loss ... then the All-Star in consideration too.

If the Allstar is a consideration, then Herbert has a lock on it.
Life's not the breaths you take, the breathing in and out that gets you through the day ain't what it's all about. It's the moments that take your breath away.

that is a good point, but Herbert didn't wrestle last year and Herbert had to wrestle the defending champ in the finals who was undefeated and a finals loss to Askren is his only loss in the last 3 years. He pinned the guy who got 3rd in his weight class in the first period.

Herbert had no takedowns against him this year, right? I was thinking that is what I have heard.
