And the state champ was the undisputed champ for the whole state. The new system allows kids from smaller schools to have a better shot at earning a state championship, but the resulting title doesn't mean quite as much as it used to. Just MO.
PA has had two divisions since at least the mid 70's.

1973 was the last year of single-division in PA (my senior year of hs). 1974 was the first AAA/AA year with AAA at Rec Hall of PSU and AA at the State Farm Show Arena in Harrisburg.

District 3 dominated 1973 in PA, btw. Two champs; 5 seconds; 5 thirds and 4 fourths - so 16 of the 48 placers.

Ohio has three divisions and I like it. As for the team race, it's usually decided before the tournament starts when you see how many kids qualified from each school. Every now and then St. Ed's gets a challenge in DI and Graham may get a challenge in DII, but the DIII changes quite often. As for individual matches go, by the time you get to the second round, it's obvious who doesn't belong. By the semis everyone still in the winners and losers bracket is pretty good, IMO.

The real beef I have with Ohio is that they arbitrarily change which teams go to which districts. They recently moved Graham out of the district they've been in for as long as I can remember and moved them north to another. This caused kids who should have never qualified to do so and kids who did qualify the year before, not go because the Graham sectional moved to another district. It was done because someone wanted more kids in the southwest to qualify. The bad thing is that the southwest district was BY FAR the poorest performing district at state because the Graham sectional was moved out.

Sorry. That was long winded and personal and I believe I've said it before. It just really bugs me.

Wow--that shows how old I am! I graduated from college in 1973 and sort of lost track of things for a good while after that, especially on the HS level.

Spjut left and went back to VT is the word. I'm pretty sure Richie will not be returning either. I will say a lot of their recruits have consistently under achieved and its not do to lack of talent, IMO is clearly do to negative leadership and constant poor morale. Praying Simmons and Leblanc bring some much needed light to the dungeon of IU.

I gave up hope after Young and Kinser left.Gman can't recruit in state any more and the pipeline to New york just got cut off .
Ritchie did a great job as a walk on -neither he and Spjut are on IU's roster .
You know, I think I would rather be a man than a god . We don't need anyone to believe in us. We just keep going anyhow. It's what we do.

You heard right about Eric. He will be the 33 lber next year for the Hokies. I can't believe the administrations don't care at all at Indiana or MSU. Maybe the success of Gomez and Esco bought them some time?

He's talented. Wonder if he'll end up somewhere else or if Goldman made him hate the sport...
